MIAMI, FL. (Top40 Charts/ Beacon Council) - The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County's official economic development organization, is honoring Miami residents Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Jr., founders of Estefan Enterprises, with the Jay Malina Award for their lifetime achievements and notable contributions to the growth of the arts, entertainment and hospitality industries in Miami-Dade County.
Every year, The Beacon Council celebrates the diversity and entrepreneurship of its local economy by honoring a group of leading businesses and executives who through their work play a significant role in the areas of job creation, business expansion, corporate citizenship and leadership in their respective industries. The Seventh Annual Beacon Awards will be held on Thursday, March 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach, Florida.

The Jay Malina Award is named in honor of the late founder and co-chair of the One Community One Goal project, Jay Malina. This year's honorees, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Jr. of Estefan Enterprises, Inc., represent the entrepreneurial spirit of the multi-cultural, multi-lingual people of Miami-Dade County. The company was founded in Miami Beach, Florida by the Estefans in 1986 and since then, they have grown their brand into a global entertainment empire spanning across numerous industries. Gloria and Emilio have over 30 businesses including music production, television and film production, music and print publishing, talent management, restaurants, hotels and real estate. As longtime Miami-Dade residents, they have also given back to the community through various charities, most recently, a $1 million gift to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. The Estefans are a vibrant business force, employing over 700 and promoting Miami-Dade worldwide.

Frank Nero, President & CEO of The Beacon Council states, 'Miami-Dade is a global business destination in which the Estefans have long been a major catalyst for growth, not only in Miami, but worldwide. We are recognizing the legacy the Estefans have created in our community through their business and charitable investments, locally and internationally.'
