Gillingham, Kent, UK, By Mikey: [email protected]) - Missy Elliott is heading up the MTV Video Music Awards with eight nominations. Justin Timberlake isn't far behind though - he's got seven. The two will fight it out for the Video Of The Year award, against 50 Cent, Eminem and country rocker Johnny Cash.

The Brits have done quite well - Radiohead got four nods, Coldplay got three and Floetry two - all three acts are also up for the Mercury Music Prize, announced earlier this week. Coldplay join Christina Aguilera to perform at the bash which will be held in New York on August 28. It will be shown live on MTV (US), MuchMusic (Canada) and on MTV in the UK two days later.
