One Night With Janis Joplin: The Critically Acclaimed Musical Play Hits The Pasadena Playhouse In Los Angeles Sunday, March 17
PASADENA, CA. (Top40 Charts) The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director), announced today that a "SHAMROCK-N-ROLL at The Playhouse" community Saint Patrick's Day concert event will celebrate the opening of ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN on Sunday, March 17, from 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m on El Molino Avenue in front of the theatre.

The "SHAMROCK-N-ROLL" event will feature an outdoor stage where Dread Zeppelin, Cerny Brothers, Shillaly Brothers and Aquarius will perform free concerts. The Cherry Boom Boom dancers will perform 60s-style dancing in the evening hours of the event. A beer garden, sponsored by Stone Brewing Company will be selling beer, wine and concessions in honor of Saint Patrick's Day (21 and older, valid I.D. required for entry) along with several local food trucks selling their specialties. Zona Rosa will be hosting live music, a local rock 'n' roll themed art gallery and selling coffee beverages. Local crafting store, little junebugs, will host face painting and "Crafty Bingo" from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and "Adult Crafting Cork Art" (18 and older, $15 admission charge) from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Janis Joplin's psychedelically painted 1965 365c Porsche Cabriolet will be on display, in partnership with the GRAMMY Museum and courtesy of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Janis had purchased the Porsche in 1968 from a Beverly Hills dealership for $3,500 and asked friend Dave Richards to paint it psychedelic colors for $500. She was known to drive around Los Angeles with the top down, laughing with her carefree spirit. The Sierra Madre Collection will host a photo opportunity with the Porsche for a charitable donation, and additional classic Porsches will be on display. Other events and activities to be announced.

Elizabeth Doran, Executive Director of The Pasadena Playhouse states, "The Playhouse has a long and storied tradition of outreach to this community. Our theatre will always be the very best place for the community to come together - as an audience, as citizens and as friends enjoying a fun time together! We want to celebrate our fantastic Janis Joplin show by bringing music to the streets and invite all to come and have a great time."

ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, created, written and directed by Randy Johnson and starring Mary Bridget Davies, who gives an acclaimed performance as Janis Joplin, is a full-on concert experience and musical journey into the life and inspirations of one of rock 'n' roll's greatest legends. With a voice like whiskey and a laugh like pure joy, Janis Joplin took the music scene by storm. Simultaneously rough and vulnerable, Joplin was dubbed the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll; proving music wasn't just a man's world anymore. ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN also shines a spotlight on the great African-American blues artists who influenced Janis' musical style and career, including Bessie Smith, Etta James and Aretha Franklin. This new musical event includes a live onstage band and features Joplin hits and classic songs such as "Piece of My Heart," "Mercedes Benz," "Me and Bobby McGee," "Ball and Chain" and "Summertime" - creating a compelling portrait of an artist through the words and music of one of America's greatest Rock 'n' Roll icons.

"…a joyful ruckus…it features not just one remarkable performance, that of Mary Bridget Davies, looking uncannily like Joplin and producing a version of the Joplin screech that starts somewhere around the singer's ankles, wends its way up into the back of her throat and shoots off into the farthest reaches of Arena's Kreeger Theater…[it] also showcases the variety of vocal gifts of Sabrina Elayne Carten, who materializes as some of the blues greats Joplin here claims as inspirations: Bessie Smith, Odetta, Nina Simone, Etta James" - The Washington Post

"Doesn't matter if you are a blues, rock and roll, or Joplin fan or not, there is no way you aren't going to leave this performance on an emotional high!" - Broadway World

"A runaway hit…[Mary Bridget Davies] does not just sing Janis…she is Janis…She does not simply sing the blues…she is the blues…It was FAR OUT MAN! As far as how many stars? It's definitely a freakin' five plus." - Cleveland Examiner

"If you never got the chance to see Janis live or on film, this feels as close as you're going to get." - The Oregonian
