Nashville, TN. (Jo Dee Messina Official Website) – Country superstar Jo Dee Messina was in Washington this past week to perform for the PBS extravaganza A Capitol Fourth. While in town she took the opportunity to meet, sing with and spend some time with one of her childhood heroes, music icon Stevie Wonder. 'Growing up I used to listen to his music constantly,' said Jo Dee. 'He was and is a musical genius. It is moments like the one I got in Washington , that remind me of how lucky I am to be able to do what I do – I am so fortunate – who would have ever imagined that one day I would be sitting right next to him singing. It is beyond a dream come true.' Prior to her performance for the event, Jo Dee was invited to watch Stevie rehearse and was simply blown away by his undeniable talent. Jo Dee added, 'He knew exactly what he wanted and was able to get every ounce of musicianship out of his band. It was fascinating to watch especially in such an intimate setting. You could really feel the magic of his talent.' After rehearsal Jo Dee got the chance to sing along with Stevie to some of his greatest hits. As part of the PBS special, Jo Dee performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, who were celebrating their 75th anniversary, under the direction of top pops conductor Erich Kunzel.
