Texas native and rising country artist Katie Armiger joined KJCS

Texas Saturday night for their first ever 'KJCS Songwriters Series' to help raise money for the American Red Cross and their relief efforts following Hurricane Ike. Katie, alongside acclaimed Nashville songwriters Jim Collins ("
The Good Stuff" recorded by Kenny Chesney), Mark Nesler ("Just To See You Smile" recorded by Tim McGraw), Mike McQuery, and Nashville Star finalist Ashlee Hewitt, performed an in-the-round show at the Fredonia Hotel. The sold out show raised close to five thousand dollars for the American Red Cross.
"The hurricane devastated parts of my hometown, Houston and Galveston, as well as parts of East Texas, so it was really important to be part of this great event," remarked Katie. "I have seen firsthand those in need and there is still more that we can do to help. I am asking fans to use their cell phone to donate $5 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund by text messaging the keyword "GIVE" to "2HELP" (24357) or visiting their website at www.redcross.org to make a donation. Every little bit helps."
"With the evacuation route and the hurricane path leading directly through East Texas, it was critical for KJCS to lead the effort in the recovery. We stayed on the air throughout the hurricane with the help of a generator and provided vital information to our listeners," commented KJCS program director Robby Lynn who put the whole show together.
