Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Shawna Russell Official Website) - Rising Oklahoma star, Shawna Russell, will perform for the 'Welcoming Home Troops from Deployment in Support of Iraqi Freedom' event at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Okla., on Friday, May 16.

The event will serve as a welcome home celebration for approximately 230 members of the 964th AACS who have been deployed in Iraq since December of last year.

Russell states, 'It is an honor to welcome home, and perform for, the brave men and women who have been protecting our freedom, and the freedom of others around the world. I believe that we as Americans should do more to show our appreciation to these members of the armed services.'

Russell's new CD, Goddess, features a song entitled 'Shed a Tear' (co-written by her with Tim Rushlow, formerly of Little Texas, and her uncle and producer, Tim Russell) which is about a woman serving in the National Guard. Russell regularly performs for military events around the country, and was part of a USO tour to Korea in 2005 as a featured member of fellow Oklahoman, Ty England 's band.

Russell has just released her first single, 'Goddess,' to radio on Way Out West/Nine North Records. In the past few weeks, she has criss-crossed the country visiting stations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida to promote the release.

The Country Music Association recently named Russell as one of their 'Who New To Watch in 2008' artists and critical acclaim and buzz have been building around the Okemah, Oklahoma native since the March release of her debut CD during the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville.

Russell and Goddess have recently received rave reviews from Country Weekly magazine, Music Row magazine, Country Stars Online, Maverick magazine, Nashville Music Guide and others.

In April, The Oklahoman stated, 'Judging from Shawna Russell's promising debut album, Oklahoma likely will be adding another country superstar to its brag book.'
