Hollywood, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Welcome To Dreamsville Records) - A decade ago, the talented beauty recorded the song as a tribute to Eartha Kitt's version in 1953. Due to illegal downloads on the internet, Basinet's version and her breath-easy sultry voice of jazz perfection, was wrongly mistaken for being that of screen legend Marilyn Monroe.
The redheaded actress and singer, is good natured about the whole experience of mistaken identity with Monroe, one of Hollywood's greatest screen icons and Santa Baby! In fact Basinet's version started out as a Christmas card gift that she recorded for her then partner, Jack Nicholson.
"When I recorded the song ten years ago, I was kind of hoping for a baby blue sports car from Santa for Christmas," laughs Basinet today. "But joking aside, the true sultry and sparkling essence of jazz, as well as, the fun spirit of Christmas is all there in my version of Santa Baby," said Basinet.
The fact Santa Baby received international radio play for Cynthia and garnered her a following of fans worldwide is a testament to the strength of Basinet's talent and golden voice. The actress is listed by jazz critics as one of the top 200 jazz voices in the world today.
Critics have said about Basinet's unique jazz voice, these things: "For Cynthia Basinet, her voice itself is an instrument; in terms of emotional power, it's a lethal weapon. Sensual, emotionally damaged and world-weary, Basinet's vocals have the makings of a film noir femme fatale." - Allaboutjazz.com
As always, Basinet is all about being a voice that causes global change this Christmas. Her work with Sahara refugees garnered the actress and singer with a Nobel Peace Prize nomination in 2005. No one was more surprised, then the fun loving star by her nomination.
