NEW YORK (www.MattRichardsMusic.net) - On Sunday, October 17th, the duo of guitarist Matt Richards and bassist Bill Zola will be featured during the Daniel Pearl Day Commemorative Concert at Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia. The show begins at 2:00pm. Admission is free.
Also featured on the performance are classical violinist Joyell Washington and the FrankfordStyle Guitar Quartet. The concert is presented by FrankfordStyle, a community-based performing arts school, in cooperation with the Glen Foerd on the Delaware historical organization.

Centered on the October 10th birthday of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who was kidnaped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 while reporting for the Wall Street Journal, Daniel Pearl Music Day continues his mission of bridging differences by connecting hundreds of thousands of people around the world through words and music.
'This world-wide network of performances is so important in our global situation,' explains Matt. 'With war marking the beginning of this new century, it's clear that something based in humanity must be the catalyst for change. Music is a symbol of peace – culture and art express that humanity and are the only true means to achieve a total victory for peace.'

Over 30 years of jazz, classical and world music experience has shaped Matt's eclectic but highly musical identity into what one listener calls 'solo guitar with a world of influences'. Though Matt's primary focus in recent years has been on the solo acoustic guitar, he earned recognition early in his career as a jazz and fusion artist. His performance with bassist Bill Zola for this concert is actually a reunion of sorts: both players worked together as a duo in the 1990s. 'Our acoustic duo is always incredibly rewarding,' Matt says, 'and we've talked about getting it together during the past few years. Our schedules finally coincided for this event and we'll make sure they continue to coincide in the future.'

In addition to festival and concert appearances, Matt has been featured on the Philadelphia-based television series Puerto Rican Panorama, on the syndicated music program Miles of Music with Bob Miles and has performed in the 2002 film Smoke And Mirrors. In November of 2003, Matt released his second all-acoustic solo album Dayside which earned critical comparisons to guitar legends Pierre Bensusan and Ralph Towner. Matt is also featured on the upcoming live CD with Language of 3 and will be recording with his jazz trio early next year.
