New York (Top40 Charts/ Steve Wilson Official Website) - NY TIMES: 'An Endlessly Adaptable Alto and Soprano Saxophonist, at Home in Myriad Settings'

Wilson Appears Live, Nationwide, on The CW Network; Also Appears on FOX-TV's 'GOOD DAY NY'

Upcoming Events Take Wilson to Jakarta, Indonesia, Bangkok, Thailand, Singapore, New York City, Syracuse, Vermont, Tortola, New Hampshire and more

Acclaimed saxophonist Steve Wilson sets his sites on an eclectic 2010, as he confirms a fascinating performance as part of Haydn's 'Seven Last Words of Christ' with the Leipzig String Quartet, February 3rd at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. Wilson and pianist Pete Malinverni will perform improvised interludes in-between the seven movements of the Leipzig presentation.

Wilson, recently described as 'an endlessly adaptable alto and soprano saxophonist, at home in myriad settings,' by The NY Times' Nate Chinen, and as a 'stellar altoist' by Time Out NY, plans a return to the legendary Village Vanguard, as a headliner, March 23-28. He will appear with his 'Wilsonian's Grain Band', featuring Orrin Evans, Ugonna Okegwo and Bill Stewart - the same line-up he brought with him to The Kennedy Center last year, an acclaimed performance that was broadcast on NPR.

Wilson recently appeared live on nationwide television, with a multi-song performance on The CW Network. Watch clips of his performance here: https://www.wgntv.com/news/liveperformances/wgntv-live-music-steve-wilson,0,672046.story

Steve Wilson also joined Christian McBride for a performance on GOOD DAY NY (FOX-TV): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzAAjBmf5_o

According to JazzWeek, Steve Wilson performed on two of the top five records played on radio in 2009: In the No 1 spot The Blue Note 7, and at No 4 with Christian McBride.

Hailed by NPR as 'one of the finest saxophonists in the business,' Wilson is among the most well liked, in-demand and respected figures in jazz. JAZZIZ.com echoed this sentiment, calling him 'an especially skilled and sensitive saxophonist…' Last month, JAZZIZ followed up with news of Wilson's tributes to jazz greats Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Joe Zawinul. See the article, here: https://www.jazziz.com/events/2009/12/03/steve-wilson-to-honor-davis-coltrane-coleman-and-zawinul/

Here is a re-cap of Steve Wilson's Eclectic 2010 Schedule: On Jan 17th, Steve will perform at the Chamber Music America Awards Banquet honoring Chick Corea; he will be joined by Christian McBride and Billy Childs.

Feb 3rd - Steve and pianist Pete Malinverni will perform a very special concert with the Leipzig String Quartet at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. The jazz duo will perform improvised interludes in-between the movements of Haydn's 'The Seven Last Words of Christ.'

Feb 10 & 11, Steve is the artist in residence at LeMoyn College in Syracuse, NY. He'll be leading several workshops as well as a performance with the LeMoyn College student jazz ensemble.

The last week in February and first two weeks of March, Steve will be again working with Christian McBride. Feb 23 - 28, McBride's Big Band will perform at Dizzy's Coca Cola Club and then record for Mack Ave. Records on March 1 & 2. On March 3, Christian McBride and Inside Straight departs for the Far East, making stops in Jakarta, Indonesia, Bangkok, Thailand, and Singapore.

Upon his return from the Far East, Steve and his Wilsonian's Grain band (Orrin Evans, Ugonna Okegwo, and Bill Stewart) will perform in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, on March 20th. This will make Steve's fourth visit and performance at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Wilsonian's Grain will then take up residence at the Village Vanguard in NYC March 23 - 28.

Coming up in April, Steve and Wilsonian's Grain will do a short residency and a concert at the University of New Hampshire. And he will fly to Spain for several concerts with the Lewis Nash All-Star Band (including Wycliff Gordon, Grant Stewart, and Jeremy Pelt)

This summer, Wilson has been invited back, for a second time, to the Vermont Mozart Festival. In 2009 He made his orchestra debut performing the Villa Lobos Fantasia for Soprano Saxophone and Orchestra. On July 28, he will present a trio concert with Joe Locke on vibes and Hans Glawischnig on bass. On August 1, he will perform works by Duke Ellington with the Mozart Festival Orchestra. The music will be arranged by Jonathan Ragonese, Wilson's student at Manhattan School of Music.
