The Prince Of Salsa Luis Enrique To Perform At CHCI's 34th Annual Awards Gala
Washington, DC (Top40 Charts/ Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) GRAMMY-award winning recording artist and Latin music legend Luis Enrique will charm attendees with his romantic style of salsa at CHCI's 34th Annual Awards Gala, the hallmark event of Hispanic Heritage Month, on Wednesday, September 14. Enrique will join Latin music sensation Prince Royce for an amazing evening of entertainment at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., hosted by Emmy-award winning journalist and Univision anchor Teresa Rodriguez. The 34th Annual Awards Gala, with the theme, "Keeping the Promise: Unity, Strength, Leadership," is hosted by ExxonMobil.

Born in Nicaragua, Enrique immigrated to the States in 1978 and was one of Latin music's first pioneers of the romantic "salsa sensual" style. He laid the groundwork for salsa and Latin pop artists to follow, such as Marc Anthony, La India and Victor Manuelle. He started his career in the late 1980s and achieved success in the 1990s earning the title "El Principe de la Salsa" (The Prince of Salsa). Winner of a Grammy Award, two Latin Grammy Awards, three Lo Nuestro Awards, and two Billboard Latin Music Awards for his last album "CICLOS" and many more awards in the past, Enrique is a versatile musician, who is considered to be one of the best percussionists of Latin music. His new album, "SOY Y SERE," was released on July 19.

Emmy-award winning journalist and veteran Univision anchor Teresa Rodriguez will serve as the Gala's celebrity host. She is the recipient of eleven Emmy awards, eight for news-oriented specials and three for investigative and feature reporting. Rodriguez co-anchors Univision's primetime award-winning weekly newsmagazine program, "Aqui y Ahora" (Here and Now), featuring investigative and consumer stories on a number of important issues facing U.S. Hispanics, as well as interviews with leading newsmakers, politicians, and celebrities. She also hosts a weekly special segment on Univision's national newscast "Noticiero Univision" (Univision News) titled "Primer Plano" (Foreground), an in-depth news report on a current national and/or international issue. She is the first woman ever to host a national primetime Spanish-language newscast.

Each year, the CHCI Annual Awards Gala is the hallmark event that launches Hispanic Heritage Month in Washington, D.C., and serves as the unifying event for the Hispanic-American community. Proceeds of the Gala benefit CHCI's award-winning leadership development programs.
