Lakeshore Records To Release 'Super' Soundtrack
Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) Lakeshore Records will release the Super - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack available digitally on March 29th and in stores on April 5, 2011. Tyler Bates (Watchmen, The Devil's Rejects) composed the original music. Artists including Cheap Trick, Moneybrother, The Nomads, Eric Carmen, The Ark and Aceyalone contribute songs to the soundtrack.

Ambient electronic textures. Intoxicating vocal melodies, driving hypnotic rhythms - these are just some of the phrases to describe the musical innovations of Tyler Bates. Whether as one of the most sought-after composers scoring hit films Watchmen, 300, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween 2, scoring Showtime's hit comedy Californication, or writing music for videogames such as Army of Two: The 40th Day, Activision's Transformers and the 300 and Watchmen games, Bates is creating some of the most distinctive music today. His latest projects include Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, Emilio Estevez's The Way, and Genndy Tartakovsky's animated series for Cartoon Network Sym-Bionic Titan.

In the outlandish dark comedy Super, James Gunn has created what is perhaps the definitive take on self-reflexive superheroes. When sad-sack loser Frank (Rainn Wilson) sees his ex-addict wife (Liv Tyler) willingly snatched by a seductive drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife. The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt!

"The music is based on simple ideas that grow emotionally deeper as the story unfolds," said Bates. "The 'Crimson Bolt' theme is not exactly 'Spiderman'. It's a bit low rent but in musical terms it tells the story of Frank becoming the Crimson Bolt."

"In the context of Super," Bates continued, "[Gunn] asked me to explore conflicting emotions simultaneously. There are many tragic moments in the film that are funny as hell. And while the score sometimes brings a bit of levity to the table, it is largely steeped in realistic emotions."
