SOCOM 4 Soundtrack (Bear McCreary)
Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) La-La Land Records will release a deluxe 2CD soundtrack for SOCOM(c) 4, composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Dark Void videogame) on May 10, 2011. SOCOM(c) 4, for the SONY Playstation 3 was released on April 19th along with an iTunes version of the soundtrack. The 2CD set from La-La Land Records (limited edition of 2000 units) will contain the full iTunes version of the soundtrack, an additional hour of music, a full-color booklet with liner notes from composer Bear McCreary and SOCOM 4's developers, and a hidden surprise especially for the fans!

Composer Bear McCreary wrote over 8 hours of music for SOCOM 4, featuring a full orchestra and Asian instruments, including a gamelan ensemble. The score was recorded entirely with live musicians at the famed Warner Bros. Eastwood Scoring Stage in Los Angeles and Skywalker Studios in Northern California.

The music is among the most adaptive and dynamicgame scores ever made, pushing the boundaries of what music can do in a video game. McCreary approached the SOCOM 4 score by first addressing how the music would be integrated into the game. He envisioned a game where the computer constantly re-mixed and adapted the score based on the player's actions and other factors.

"I was thrilled with the opportunity to create the score for SOCOM 4," said McCreary. "Ever since I was a kid, I've dreamt of a video game score that would feel as if it were being composed specifically for each player, adapting and shifting perfectly to capture the mood of the individual gamer. Thanks to the powerful technology available today, and the talented artists and programmers at Sony and Zipper, I was able to write a score that fulfills this promise."

Bear McCreary was among a handful of select proteges of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein and is a classically trained composer with degrees in Composition and Recording Artsfrom the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music. McCreary's unique combination of atypical instrumental background (he is a professional accordionist) with rigorous classical training prepared him to compose in disparate genres.

This versatility is evident in the body of work McCreary has created including this year's surprise hit The Walking Dead, Human Target (for which McCreary earned his first Emmy nomination), The Cape, Eureka, the film the Touchstone Pictures film Step Up 3D, and the Dark Void videogame.

At the age of 24, Bear McCreary was launched into pop culture with his score for Battlestar Galactica, "the most innovative music on TV today" (Variety). Io9.com declared Bear McCreary one of the Ten Best Science Fiction Composers of all time, the only composer under 50 on the list (he is in his early 30s), and the only one recognized for his work in television.

"SOCOM 4 may be a sequel," described McCreary, "But musically, it's a franchise re-boot. You won't hear patriot soaring horn lines, or military marches. Instead, the exotic location and international band of characters are represented by exotic percussion, solostrings and woodwind instruments, and the spectacularly other-worldly tones of the gamelan."

A militant revolutionary has unexpectedly seized control in an important South Asian country," describes Zipper Interactive's Jeremy Dunham. "As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it's too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you." In addition to the SOCOM 4's single-player operation, players will also be able to enjoy a 32-person multiplayer mode that boasts more Special Forces units than ever before!

SOCOM 4 for the Playstation 3 will be in stores on April 19, 2011. The SOCOM 4 Original Soundtrack (limited edition 2000) will be available in stores or from www.lalalandrecords.com on May 10, 2011. Bear McCreary will be signing copies of the SOCOM 4 Original Soundtrack at Dark Delicacies (3512 W. Magnolia, Burbank, CA 91505 https://www.darkdel.com/) on May 21, 2011.
