United Palace To Screen Iconic German Silent Film 'Metropolis' With Live Score
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On Sunday, March 25th, the United Palace of Cultural Arts will present a multisensory screening of Fritz Lang's legendary silent film, 'Metropolis' (1927), an expressionist epic that was among the first feature-length science fiction films. Award-winning flutist and composer Yael Acher "KAT" Modiano will bring the classic to life with her own electro-acoustic score - which she creates entirely with flute and special effects. She brings her talents to the United Palace following performances at Lincoln Center, The High Line, Jewish Heritage Museum and more.

In addition to the screening, the NYC Vintage Enthusiasts will curate a "retro-futuro" fashion show on the United Palace's renovated stage before the movie. Guests are also encouraged to dress in theme costumes.

Formerly known as the Loew's 175th Street Theatre, the United Palace is located at 4140 Broadway at 175th Street in Washington Heights. Designed by acclaimed architect Thomas W. Lamb, the space originally opened in 1930 as one of the metro area's five Wonder Theaters. In 2013, the nonprofit United Palace of the Cultural Arts (UPCA) began a series of fundraisers to return movies to the Palace. With the help of UCPA and Washington Heights locals, including longtime supporter Lin-Manuel Miranda, the theater has been beautifully preserved and upgraded - including a recently installed state-of-the-art 7.1 surround sound system. The Palace continues its storied history today by playing host to special events, concerts, film screenings, interfaith services and more.
