Cleopatra Records Wins Million Dollar Judgment Against Creator Of Broadway Musical Million Dollar Quartet!

LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has just issued a judgment in favor of independent record label Cleopatra Records, Inc. ending a 3-year legal struggle that was decisively concluded in the record label's favor.

The litigation was brought by the legal team of Cleopatra, headed by Alan S. Gutman and Evan S. Cohen, against Floyd Mutrux (and his company Northern Lights, Inc.), the writer/creator of the hit Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet (which also has a current run in Chicago and Las Vegas, as well as touring company), as well as the musical Baby It's You!, which also appeared briefly on Broadway in 2011.

The lawsuit, which was initiated in July 2012, stemmed from an investment that Cleopatra owner Brian Perera made in those musicals as well as other undeveloped projects by Mutrux. However, Cleopatra later discovered that money had been paid to Mutrux well in excess of the original investment amount, and, furthermore, that the investment money was used by Mutrux for his personal expenses, unrelated to the musical productions.

The lawsuit alleged a long list of claims against Mutrux, including fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and rescission. In the judgment, the Court awarded Cleopatra a total of $965, 851.47 on its claim for rescission of the contract.
