Raucous Texas Record Label Saustex Records Announces SXSW Takeover
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Going on about 15 years now, unhinged Hickoids frontman/Austin Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jeff Smith has been releasing fine punk, rock n' roll and damaged country and roots music from a vast array of musicians, from punk/power pop legend Javier Escovedo to the utterly profane The Beaumonts, to outliers like Blowfly, murder ballad master T. Tex Edwards and current rockers like Churchwood, Harvey McLaughlin, Count Vaseline and DINOLA. But his onstage antics are just one side of Smith, who spends an uncommon amount of time and effort supporting the music scenes in Austin and San Antonio. Every year he presents a massive slate of bands in various venues around Austin during SXSW, and this year is no different. Visit his website for lots of details and the label's soundcloud page to sample these fine bands, and make the scene.

"THE SHAKIEST GUNS IN THE WEST"

Saustex Records, The Austin Corn Lovers Fiesta, Coody Gold, Sam Peckinpah and Hal Wallis present an epic night where kisses and lead will fly! "The Shakiest Guns in the West"

12:45am Hickoids (Austin, TX) The Hickoids may or may not know what decade it is and just keep showing up, whether folks want them to or not.

11:45pm Pure Luck (Austin, TX) Fronted by Honky, B*tthole Surfers and sometimes Melvins bassist Jeff Pinkus (the legendary headache machine even having gone as far as to title their upcoming volume 'Pinkus Abortion Technician') and with various lineups having featured members of Ween and Down, Pure Luck are proof that you can take the boy out of Atlanta but you can't take Atlanta out of the boy. Guitar-laden country blues delivered in a style that reminds Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band through a particularly grimy lens.

10:45pm Texacala Jones & The Pony Island Express (Austin, TX) Fronted by "The" Tex of Tex & The Horseheads, the legendary Ms. Jones new act represents something of a return to the form of her legacy namesake band, foregoing the more folky explorations in the past decade in favor of straight-ahead rock'n'roll infused with blues and punk at this turn. The hard-edged band features Chelsea Taylor (daughter of Lubbock legend Jesse Taylor) on guitar and journeyman bassist Nathan Calhoun. It's good to see the lady back in the saddle.

9:45pm Corinne Rose (Austin, TX) Corinne Rose is a vehicle for well-rounded actress and musician Maria Mabra as she sings while drumming for the band (and also writes original material.) Not to be confused with Canadian folkster Corinna Rose, this act bill themselves as a "bluegrass band" but the label doesn't seem quite apt.

8:45pm The Differentials (Austin, TX) This band of Austin vets deliver rock'n'roll in the tradition of The Supersuckers at their street-legal octane moments and that's not a bad thing. The self-described "ninth greatest rock'n'roll band in the world" know meat and potatoes with well crafted songs and solid delivery will always go down good.

7:45pm 8 Ball Aitken (Australia) Still something of a secret in The States, 8 Ball Aitken is a charting artist and mainstay of blues and country festivals back home. The one-man juggernaut regularly plays in excess of 200 shows a year worldwide. His randy, good-natured banter is weaved into the fiber of his tunes and he knows how to get asses shaking.

7pm Mando Saenz (Nashville, TN) This well-respected Carnival Records writer and recording artist is a late edition to the show. Maybe better known as a writer for others including Lee Ann Womack and numerous "Texas Country" acts his own records reveal an affinity for melody and pop akin to Peter Case or The Derailers.

WEDNESDAY 03.14.18 8pm to 2am
THE LOST WELL
2421 Webberville Rd., Austin, TX 78702
$7, 21+
"TALENT OF FREAKISH PROPORTIONS"

Saustex Records and The Austin Corn Lovers Fiesta are proud to present an evening dedicated to talent of freakish proportions!

12:45am We Are The Asteroid (Austin, TX) W.A.T.A. are without a doubt the hardest-touring new act among Austin's punk rock vets. Gary Chester (guitar) of Ed Hall and PONG, Nathan Calhoun (bass) formerly of Chaindrive and the B*tthole Surfers, and, Frank Garymartin (drums) of The Pain Teens made their debut at the Austin Corn Lovers Fiesta several years ago and have not looked back for a second, playing hundreds of dates across the U.S., Canada and Japan since then.

11:45pm Pocket FishRmen (Austin, TX) The FishRmen have been riding high recently, reaping some nice reviews and airplay with their thirty year/thirty song best of 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' that was released late last year on Saustex Records. These intelligent goofs always get the hometown crowd moving.

10:45pm DiNOLA (New Orleans, LA) Also receiving great notices for their Dave Catching produced Saustex debut 'Up High' released in January is DiNOLA. The Crescent City band barely survived their moonlighting gig as Pink Slip playing on floats during Mardi Gras this year. After some rest they'll be ready to bring some energized stripped-down heavy British Blues to the folks at the Lost Well.

9:45pm Sabbath Crow (Austin, TX) Sabbath Crow also trace their roots to New Orleans and like their friends DiNOLA play a blues informed brand of hard rock, but one that is more to the American side of the spectrum. Boogie children indeed.

8:45pm Cannibal Bitch (San Antonio, TX) Featuring St. Mary's Strip fixtures Adrian Hart and Sergio Hernandez, this act has something to offend just about everyone. They grind up punk and metal history and spit it back with abusive flair and an unsettling stage presence.

THURSDAY 03.15.18 5pm to Midnight
ABGB
1300 W. Oltorf St., Austin, TX 78704
$5 suggested donation benefitting Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (H.A.A.M.)
All ages

Saustex Records, The Austin Corn Lovers Fiesta and the ABGB present an early evening of "Rock'n'Roll & Trash" benefiting H.A.A.M. - the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. As tens of millions of dollars flow through the music economy of Austin during SXSW we find it important to support the folks who keep the town rocking the other 360 days of the year. H.A.A.M. provides low-cost insurance and medical services to Austin musicians.

The event features a well-rounded bill:
10:30 pm Ian Quiet & The Prof.Fuzz 63 (Shreveport, LA)
Ian and his band absolutely stole the show last year during SX Music Week at ABGB with a trashy mixture of punk disco and noise reminiscent of The Happy Mondays, Bonaparte and Flipper, and, an over the top stage show. Not to be missed.

9:30 Butch County (Austin, TX)
Katy Koonce and her band really stomp with a party-vibed, 70's UK glam informed brand of bluesy hard rock.

8:30 The Far Forlorn (Chicago, IL)
Jon Langford - main man of legendary UK punk cum alt-country act the Mekons and Bloodshot Records mainstay The Waco Brothers returns to Austin with another side-project that offers all of the elements he's known for: Passion, poetry, three chords and the truth.

7:30 Texas Bob Juarez (Liverpool, UK)
Originally from San Antonio - SeƱor Juarez has made his home and career in the UK for the last two decades. Notable for his role in the mid-2000's as the musical leader of a revived Television Personalities (an early Rough Trade Records act that played an infectious brand of naive/lo-fi/psych pop) in addition to having toured with Adam Ant, Texas Bob currently tours as a solo act throughout Europe and plays in Rose McDowal's band (Strawberry Switchblade, Current 93, Coil, Psychic TV, Spell, Rosa Mundi.)

6:30 One Good Lung (Austin, TX)
Fronted by the unhealthily alluring and assaultive poster girl Aimee Lane, One Good Lung render succinct and revved up dirges suggestive of The Melvins. Wear knee pads and eye protection.

5:30 Mean Motor Scooter (Ft. Worth, TX)
These young folks from the DFW metroplex deliver surf infused garage rock in the lo-fi style of many Burger Records acts, splitting the musical difference between Austin's own melodic Ugly Beats and Memphis trash legends The Oblivians.
