One Direction Top UK Singles Charts!
LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) British boy band One Direction have entered The Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart straight in at No 1 with their debut single, 'What Makes You Beautiful'. Released on Simon Cowell's Syco label, the single broke the pre-sales record for Sony Music in the UK selling 82,000 copies within the first four days of release. With over 153,000 sales since last Monday, One Direction leapfrogged artists such as Bruno Mars, Olly Murs, Jennifer Lopez, DJ Fresh, Wanted, Example and Adele, who all broke through the 100,000 sales-in-one-week barrier this year, with one of the most eagerly anticipated debuts of 2011.

Band members Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik met as individual contestants on last year's X Factor but joined forces at the suggestion of X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger.

One Direction release their debut album later this year.

The Official Albums Chart Top 10 sees two other new entries: A Creature I Don't Know from Mercury-nominated folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling is straight in at number four and indie-rockers Kooks land their third Top 10 album with Junk Of The Heart straight in at Number 10.

Lady Gaga entered The Official UK Singles chart with 'You And I' at number 38, and Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse entered at number 40 with 'Body And Soul'.

Elsewhere Damien Rice's 'Cannonball' re-entered the charts at number 39 after last night's (September 17) X Factor show in which maths teacher, John Adams, blows the audience away with his rendition.

The video for 'What Makes You Beautiful' was shot in Malibu and sees the boyband on the beach, driving an orange campervan and setting up a beachside camp.
