By Mikey: ([email protected]) - The Appleton Sisters are on the verge of getting the elbow from their record label - Polydor, with weak midweek sales for their latest single Everything Eventually, which is set to enter the chart at No.35 this week. After just two hits - Fantasy, peaked at No.2 and Don't Worry peaked at No.5 and their album Everything's Eventual debuted at No.9.

Let's take a quick look how they began, way back in 1997 these 4 girls - Melanie Blatt, Natalie Appleton, Nicole Appleton, and Shazney Lewis - formed the band All Saints to rival the band Spice Girls. The name of the band All Saints was taken from the name All Saints Road, London, a cooler, R&B motivated vocal girl group in the wake of the Spice Girls. Their debut single - I Know Where It's At - charted in September 1997. They were crowned best Breakthrough Artists in 1998 MTV Europe Music Awards, and a Brit in 1998 for their best single Never Ever.

With 5 number one records - Never Ever, Under the Bridge / Lady Marmalade, Bootie Call (the 800th Number One Single), Pure Shores (Theme tune to the Motion Picture The Beach) and Black Coffee. And two albums - All Saints & Saints and Sinners. Their biggest selling single was Never Ever with Sales projected over 1,254,604 million sales. Funny enough all their singles reached the Top 10, with 5 number ones, which is a good record for a girl group, which were at their peak at the time. The group split in March 2001.

The Appleton Sisters formed the Band Appleton and released their first single last year debuted in the charts at No.2.with Fantasy. Melanie Blatt has had one major hit collaborating with Artful Dodger for the single Twenyfourseven in 2001, which peaked at No.6. Meanwhile, Melanie Blatt is soon to release her new single on August 18 with her brand new single - Do Me Wrong - how will she fare, only time will tell. And finally Shazney Lewis has not had a single release since their break-up of the band since 2001. But she has had a major acting role in a hit Brit flick - Bend It Like Beckham.

Just to summarise All Saints were a cool R&B vocal girl band and very talented, it's a shame they split, as I quoted earlier "they were at their peak at the time". The big question, you have to ask, will they reform, the answer to that, I don't really know, but in my book they were the best girl band at the time without a doubt beating those Spice Girls into second best, so lets raise our glasses to them, they gave us the best music that money can buy, and they truly achieved their Hall of Fame in our Music Industry.
