Holly Stell, the 13 year-old opera prodigy who has already recorded a duet with Andrea Bocelli, will be releasing her self-titled debut cd nationwide on June 20th, announced Jack Lenz, President of Lenz Entertainment, and executive producer for Stell's cd.
Dubbed "Petite Pavarotti" by Entertainment Tonight, Stell's cd was originally made available for a short window of time in January 2006 as part of a limited exclusivity deal with Barnes & Noble. Since then, Stell's been an entertainment focal point for media in the US and Canada where she has been featured on CNN's Showbiz Tonight, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Canada AM and NBC's Today Show, where she performed live as part of a the show's focus on child prodigies and their extraordinary talents.
Stell recently inked a national distribution deal with Fontana Distribution, one of North America's leading independent music distribution companies. Her cd will be available at major music retailers nationwide and can also be purchased on-line at www.hollystell.com or downloaded at iTunes. Holly's album is also available online at Amazon.com where she was a featured 'artist of the month' for May 2006. Additionally, the track Annabelle Lee, a song Holly wrote that was inspired by a poem scribed by Edgar Allan Poe, was recently a featured 'Staff Pick Of The Week' on Amazon.com.
Holly's 14-track album also includes the song Go Where Love Goes, which was originally recorded as a duet with Andrea Bocelli for the soundtrack of the feature film, The Lazarus Child, starring Andy Garcia and Angela Bassett. The duet also appears on Bocelli's album Andrea.
"Holly's voice at 13 is so strong and beautiful that it proves that age does not limit talent," said Lenz, who discovered Stell at a performance in Toronto during Hilary Duff's 'High Tea Birthday Benefit' for the non-profit organization, 'Kids With A Cause', of which Holly is a member. "I happened to accompany her on the piano at the benefit, and I almost fell off my chair when I heard her sing. It's pure magic," said Lenz. "She is a one of a kind talent, very rare, especially for someone at her age."
Stell's interest in opera began when she was just a toddler. Instead of watching cartoons, she would listen to and imitate The Three Tenors, whom she credits as her idols.
Holly joined her church choir at the age of four, signed with a vocal coach at age nine, and even went on to perform for the President of the United States.
"I grew up watching my idols, the Three Tenors and never imagined that my love for opera could take me this far," said Stell. "Not many people my age are of fans of classical music but I want to change that and bring this style of music into the mainstream spotlight for my generation to sample, enjoy and appreciate."
And according to fan blogs on her website, Holly is doing just that. Fellow teens are reaching out to Holly, thanking her for her inspiration and admiring her for pursuing a genre of music that is generally considered out of the mainstream for most teens these days.
