Americana Artist Lisa Bouchelle Shifts From Jersey Shore Roots To A National Audience, Releases EP, Duet With John Popper
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Emerging Americana singer Lisa Bouchelle is no stranger to the music scene... and she appears to be on the verge of an 'overnight success' story that's actually years in the making. Her new EP, 'Lipstick Tomboy', includes a duet with John Popper of Blues Traveler, and the track is already making big noise at radio, with a music video in the works for February.

A fixture on the Jersey Shore, Bouchelle is respected by her peers and long known for her chops as a singer, writer and performer, playing upwards of 200 shows a year. She has sung backup for Bruce Springsteen, dueted in concert with Jon Bon Jovi, and toured with and/or opened for Blues Traveler, Meat Loaf, Ingrid Michaelson, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Bryan Adams, Jason Mraz, The Wailers, Train, and many others.

Bouchelle now marks her own fabled shift from the shadows to the spotlight, capping a personal musical journey that began when she was just four years old. Her mother was an alcoholic, and her father worked three jobs just so their family could scrape by. Life at home was combustible, and it seemed the only time her mom and dad would stop fighting was when young Lisa sang. So the lesson came early: singing was the way out of her personal darkness. And she's never stopped. Now, she uses her music to bring light into other people's lives.

Bouchelle is 100% dedicated to the music. She drove 12,000 miles, on her own, to open on tour with Blues Traveler. She's an artist that will play anywhere, any time (whether it be local gigs in small bars, performing in hospitals for sick children, or in arenas opening for bigger acts.) She's even got her own TV show, 'Rock Star Kitchen'. Read more about Bouchelle's inspiring journey, here:

A Spring/Summer tour will be announced soon. Until then, see Bouchelle perform on February 10, at the Freehold Art Gallery in Freehold, NJ. It's an intimate venue and she'll be playing solo acoustic.

"Only The Tequila Talkin'," the EP's duet with John Popper, has garnered over 140,000 Spotify plays since its debut, as well as Triple A airplay from XPN in Philly, KSCN in LA, and via Little Steven's Underground Garage channel on SiriusXM. Bouchelle co-wrote the song with John Eddie (Kid Rock, Sammy Hagar, Colt Ford and Keith Urban), and had this to say about the track: I had the idea for the chorus hook of this song. I called John Eddie, and he really dug it! We collaborated on writing the rest of this fun track. It is inspired a lot by some of the clever lyrical hooks in classic country songs. When it was finished, I called John Popper and told him I had a catchy, fun drinkin' duet, he was totally down with recording it with me. I flew out to Seattle to do the recording. Brendan, the drummer of Blues Traveler also played on the track. It's also a blast to perform the song live!

More about the EP, here:
Bouchelle is joined by notable artists on her EP. On "Tequila," in addition to John Popper and drummer Brendan Hill from Blues Traveler, musicians are as follows: Bass is Hal B. Selzer (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Gary US Bonds, "Rock of Ages"), Roger Filgate (Wishbone Ash) played guitar, Lloyd Landesman (Foreigner, Squeeze, Carl Perkins, Clarence Clemons) played keys. The track was produced by Mike Rogers (Deee-Lite, Erasure, Sinead O'Connor, They Might Be Giants, Tracy Bonham, Sly & Robbie, Steel Pulse).

The other three tracks were produced by Jeff Trott, who is Sheryl Crow's producer, and co-writer of many of her biggest hits, including "A Change Will Do You Good," "Soak Up the Sun," "Everyday Is A Winding Road," "My Favorite Mistake," etc. His other songwriting and/or producing collaborations include Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, Cider Sky, Michelle Branch, Stevie Nicks, and Counting Crows. He played most of the instruments on the Lisa Bouchelle tracks (Lisa played acoustic guitar).

Bouchelle's cover of the Gordon Lightfoot classic "If You Could Read My Mind" also features Jerry Steel (Emmy Lou Harris) on pedal steel.

The Vibe Of 'Lipstick Tomboy' EP, and song notes, by Lisa Bouchelle:
I think the 'Lipstick Tomboy' EP has a more organic sound than the rest of my releases. It is more stripped down and closer to how the songs sound when I originally write them, with just my voice and my acoustic guitar. This allows the lyrics and the stories to really shine through, which is key in honest passionately written story songs. We fleshed out the recordings with interesting textures, utilizing some rootsy Americana instruments such as lap steel, pedal steel, mandolin and even some banjo. Another element that influenced this EP is the addition of Jeff Trott to our team, who really influenced the sound and shape of the recordings with his unique and creative arrangement and production ideas on the tunes. I'm very excited about this collection of songs.

Heart vs. Mind
I think we've all been here - where our mind and our heart are at odds. It's like "what do ya do?"; "Which do ya follow?" That's why everybody relates to this song. (That emerging lap steel that creeps in and kicks of the intro is Jeff Trott. I love that!)

Luv Is Supposed 2B Fun
Well even the title is spelled in a 'Fun' way! haha. Ya know, I'm the first to get introspective and analyze life, love and the like. But sometimes it's good to be 'light' and just 'let it flow'. Love is the path to that freedom. That's the message of this one. The Steel Drums give it a party vibe. Makes me wanna dance and celebrate!

If You Could Read My Mind
I heard Gordon Lightfoot doing this song late one night on the radio on my way home from a gig. This song creates such a picture in the mind of the listener. I wanted to do a syrupy-slow rendition incorporating intimate vocals and instruments like pedal steel and clean dreamy electric guitar that further enhance the mood. So proud to have a version to call mine of this terrific classic tune.

More About Lisa Bouchelle:
Lisa Bouchelle is an artist on the move. Not only is her career on a strong upward spiral, but it seems she personally never stops moving, as she averages over 200 shows a year. She has toured and/or opened for artists such as Meat Loaf, Blues Traveler, Train, Ted Nugent, Bryan Adams, Don Felder of The Eagles, Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, The Wailers, and many others.
Lisa's independent releases have reached #1 on two indie charts, and #4 on the college charts. And while she may still be an underground artist to many fans, she has the respect of her fellow musicians, as evidenced by the fact that her recordings have contributions from John Popper and Brendan Hill of Blues Traveler, Rob Hyman of The Hooters, the legendary David Bromberg, chart-topping World Music artist Erin Hill, guitarist Bobby Bandiera (Bon Jovi), violinist Lorenza Ponce (Sheryl Crow), and hit songwriters such as John Eddie (Kid Rock) and Glen Burtnik (Styx),
Lisa started singing at the age of four, because although her parents loved her deeply, the only time they would stop arguing was when little Lisa sang. So she sang every chance she got, feeling it was her job to keep harmony in the family. Now, after losing both her parents, she still sings every chance she gets, whether it be driving thousands of miles across the US on her own, which she's done several times while doing solo tours, or playing in the train station for tips. In fact, she was interviewed on NPR Radio about her experiences "busking" in the Philadelphia train station.
Lisa also managed to find time to create and host the TV show "Rock Star Kitchen," in which she schmoozes with platinum selling artists in her kitchen, talking about music and touring, while cooking up their favorite dishes. The show quickly became the top-rated original content show on The Comcast Network in the Philadelphia region, and is currently in talks for national and international syndication. Lisa also made an appearance on the hit TV show Gossip Girl, and had a starring role in an off-Broadway production.
