New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ MSI Music/ Super D) - Australian-born, London-based Anthony Pappa is one of a handful of DJs who rocketed to international fame during the heyday of progressive house around the turn of the millennium. But unlike some flash in the pan, Pappa continues to captivate dancefloors around the world. He'll be making a long overdue return to New York, celebrating the release of his new 'Moments' double-mix CD, headlining the intimate confines of the Sullivan Room, on Saturday May 17th for Basic NYC.
Anthony made his big splash in 2000, gracing the cover of DJ Magazine as part of the 'Nu Breed' of boldface name DJs making waves. That year, it was Anthony who mixed the first volume of the famed 'Nubreed' series for Global Underground, the same series that helped kickstart the careers of Sander Kleinenberg, Lee Burridge and Danny Howells. Ever since then it's been a nonstop itinerary of packed dancefloors and studio sessions for this beloved tastemaker. His own solo productions – as well as his legendary collaborations as Pappa & Gilbey – helped set the pace for the world's top jocks.
'Moments' is Anthony's first mix CD in several years, and it's an ambitious release for him. A two-disc set, with a bonus mix available for download online, Pappa feels that this release gives him the scope to dig into all four corners of his record box, and demonstrate the scale of his appreciation for electronic music.
'It starts off with deep house, then tech house, then finishes off with techno,' he explains. 'And it goes through whatever in the middle to get there!' Building through the likes of 'Music Is Improper' by Friendly People, Darko Esser's 'Blackout' and Jamie Stevens' 'Keep Her Space,' the album also includes cuts like 'Rubicon' from Avilo and Stel's 'Sparky's Heartstopper' - quality tracks from the best in electronic music.
Also spinning on the night will be Basic NYC residents Sleepy & Boo, along with locals ARANA from the regular Wobble events, and talented newcomer Chris Luzz.
