New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Basic NYC) - Think of Paris and you'll undoubtedly get swept away with dreams of gourmet cuisine, stunning fashion, fine culture and refinement. How about techno? Yes, Paris has that too - and you can thank Dan Ghenacia for keeping the city of lights firmly on the world's underground map. Through his trendsetting label Freak N'Chic, his own productions, and storming DJ sets all over the world, Ghenacia has become one of the world's most in-demand techno and house artists on the circuit these days.
Fresh off another crazy European summer, Dan will be making a rare visit to the USA, with his first-ever headlining set at Basic NYC on Saturday October 25th at Sullivan Room.
Ghenacia is truly at the heart of Paris' underground music culture. He first exploded onto the scene as the resident at a notorious series of afterhours parties held at the floating Batofar boat, a legendary scene that established Ghenacia as mind-melting DJ who could keep a party going well into the afternoon. He's had a great opportunity to refine those skills with residencies at two of Ibiza's most storied parties: We Love Sundays at Space, and the Monday mania of Circoloco DC-10. Dan's own Freak N'Chic parties have become Paris' regular hotspots for quality music, with this summer seeing the crew return to Batofar along with guests as diverse as Damian Lazarus, Johnny D, Steve Bug and many more.
When he's not making dancefloors lose it from behind the decks, he's most likely at home in the studio. An accomplished producer, both as a solo artist and collaborator, Dan's music is at the heart of his Freak N'Chic label. Mixing a minimal techno aesthetic with a tripped-out, west coast psychedelic vibe, Dan's music steers well clear of tired electronic music cliches.
Now with over 30 releases, Freak N'Chic has become established as a quality label with it's own unique sound and growing roster of talent. Not only can you find his own music there, but new and dynamic artists like Dyed Soundroom, Shonky, Jamie Jones, Anthony Collins, Seuil, David K and :TERRY: are all regular contributors to the label. The distinctive sound of both the label and Dan's DJing has all been captured on 'Eyelights', a May 2008 mix CD that highlighted Ghenacia's unique style.
DJing alongside Dan will be Mono Henao of the Global Frequencies camp, and B-Day boy and Sullivan Room regular Andrew Vogt. Basic NYC's Sleepy & Boo close out what promises to be a great night for both partiers and music heads alike.
