New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Missing Piece Group) Ben Watt, best known as one-half of
Everything But The Girl and CEO of Buzzin' Fly Records, has had a landmark year with the release of his second book, Romany and Tom, and Hendra, his first solo album in more than 31 years. The new record has been nominated in the "Best Difficult 2nd Album" category at the AIM (Association of Independent Music) Awards 2014, where he'll be up against Anna Calvi and Blood
Orange among others.
Just last week, Watt played to 15,000 people across two days at Japan's Summer Sonic festival and traveled to Australia for live shows and a speaking event at the Melbourne Writers Festival.
On his recent tour of North America, Ben and Bernard Butler stopped by the offices of The AV Club to cover Wang Chung's "Dance Hall Days" for their popular Undercover series. When asked why they chose this song, Watt said "We were given a fairly uncompromising short list, and this was the most unlikely candidate."
Writing in the Huffington Post, Kristi York Wooton called Hendra "one of the best albums of 2014" while
Glenn Gamboa of Newsday listed the album as one of his "Best Albums of 2014 So Far."
Hendra has earned widespread 4 star reviews from Mojo, Q, Uncut, The Guardian, and many more. Ann Powers of NPR
Music said, "Ben Watt is a master of detail and of quietude... Now, with his first solo album in 31 years, he has returned to highly cultured, intimate song craft." In Rolling Stone,
James Hunter said, "The songs occupy their own modern spaces with a raging peacefulness."
