Chris Bell (Big Star), Raspberries And Roger Taylor (Queen) Power Omnivore's Record Store Day/Black Friday Offerings
New York, NY (Top40 Charts / Company) Omnivore Recordings will make three vinyl titles available for Record Store Day/Black Friday, held on Friday, November 24 at brick-and-mortar record stores throughout America. Omnivore will release Chris Bell's The Complete Chris Bell, a 6-LP set; Raspberries' Pop Art Live, in a three-colored 3-LP set; and a 10-inch vinyl EP from Queen's Roger Taylor titled Journey's End.
Chris Bell: The Complete Chris Bell (6-LP set)
After Big Star co-founder Chris Bell left the group, only two tracks of new music were released in his lifetime — a 1978 single on the Car Records label run by Chris Stamey (The dB's, Sneakers) titled "I Am the Cosmos" b/w "You and Your Sister." Bell played with several bands in Memphis before Big Star, and though much music was recorded, nothing was released. These early Bell-related recordings were compiled by Omnivore in a CD/Digital set titled Looking Forward: The Roots of Big Star, released in July 2017, and they now make their vinyl debut in the first two LPs of The Complete Chris Bell as Looking Forward: The Roots of Big Star and Rock City — See Seven States.
The Complete Chris Bell was produced and compiled by Grammy®-Award winner Cheryl Pawelski, Ardent Studios' Adam Hill, and Grammy®-nominated producer Alec Palao. It was freshly remastered by Grammy®-Award winning engineer Michael Graves, and the vinyl cut on the original lathe at Ardent Studios in Memphis by Chris Jackson and Adam Hill.
Liner notes are by co-producer Alec Palao and Bob Mehr (music critic for the daily Memphis newspaper The Commercial Appeal, and author of the New York Times Best Seller Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements). The booklet also features previously unseen photos and memorabilia, plus a special excerpt from the forthcoming HoZac Books release There Was a Light: The Cosmic History of Chris Bell and the Rise of Big Star, by Rich Tupica.
The Complete Chris Bell boxed set will be a one-time pressing with individual volumes potentially broken out in the future as demand warrants (excluding the 1975 London Interview LP, which will be exclusive to the boxed set). The entire project was developed with the oversight of the Estate of Chris Bell and should serve as the definitive collection.
Raspberries: Pop Art Live (3-LP set)
On November 26, 2004, the stage was set for a reunion most thought could never happen — the Raspberries live in concert, more than 30 years after the original four members of the band last played together. Pop Art Live captures opening night at Cleveland's House of Blues, where fans experienced the power and magic that led the group to a successful reunion tour in 2005.
With 30 tracks, the set contains live versions of songs from all four of the Raspberries' classic original studio albums including the hits "Go All the Way," "I Wanna Be With You," "Let's Pretend," and "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)"! And for Record Store Day/Black Friday 2017, this vinyl release contains the bonus tracks "Drivin' Around/Cruisin Music" and "I Don't Know What I Want," from the band's 2004 New Year's Eve show at the House of Blues in Cleveland.
Founding members Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson, David Smalley, and Jim Bonfanti powerfully muscle through pure rock 'n' roll heaven, bringing to life the legacy of power pop's founding fathers. With sound brilliantly mixed by longtime Raspberries' associate Tommy Allen, the Midwestern quartet has never sounded this good!
Also included in the package are reflections and testimonials from Academy Award-winning filmmaker and rock scribe Cameron Crowe and longtime Raspberries aficionados Bernie Hogya and Ken Sharp. Hogya also contributes a wealth of ephemera from opening night in Cleveland.
Roger Taylor: Journey's End (10" EP)
In 2001 Roger Taylor was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Queen, and is acknowledged as one of the most influential drummers in popular music. In addition to founding and wielding the sticks for one of the world's best-selling groups, as well as collaborating with Robert Plant, Genesis, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Foo Fighters, and Gary Numan among others, Roger Taylor has also had a brilliant and long career as a songwriter and solo artist.
Hot on the heels of the Queen + Adam Lambert 2017 tour, Omnivore Recordings will release Roger Taylor's latest solo project, Journey's End. This deep and personal music is best described by Roger himself: "I think it's basically about thoughts of mortality . . . And as we're not getting any younger, you should start thinking about the tail end, or the September of one's years."
Journey's End hit the number one video spot in the U.K., No. 14 in the U.S. and in the Top 10 on video channels across the globe. Following the universal success of Roger's recently released Journey's End film piece, the music is now appearing on a limited edition 10" vinyl EP exclusively for Record Story Day/Black Friday. The EP consists of two new tracks and two previously unissued tracks pressed on sunset gold vinyl: "Tonight" (Cocktail Mix)," "Journey's End" (Instrumental) and "Revelation" (The Hungry Mix).
Journey's End provides a perfect window onto the ever-growing, ever-evolving, always moving, music of this rock giant.
