New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Glendale Arts) Glendale Redefines Pops Previewing Its First Season with "THE PREMIERE" in a One-Night-Only Special Event
In an economy in which one would think that the arts would entirely disappear, Glendale Arts has defied cynicism and formed the Glendale Pops Orchestra, which debuts on May 13 at the city's historic Alex Theatre. To ensure its success, the non-profit arts organization has brought in Matt Catingub as the artistic director and conductor. Matt comes to Glendale after many years of conducting the Honolulu Symphony Pops and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra Pops, as well as appearing as a regular guest conductor for many other major orchestras including those in Nashville, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
Catingub said, "I have never in my career as a Pops Orchestra conductor anticipated anything with any more excitement than the launch of our new Glendale Pops Orchestra. Tapping in to the incredible talent of the artists and musicians who call Glendale and the surrounding L.A. area their home, brings a level of sophistication and raises the bar for what is possible in the coming years. The music and themes we have chosen, and the artists that have agreed to join us this first season, is only the beginning of what promises to be a Pops Orchestra that will set new and bold standards for the industry."
The Glendale Pops Orchestra's opening season consists of six concerts - four at the Alex Theatre and two free concerts, for the community and subscription holders, at The Americana at Brand. The Premiere is a musical Pops journey that will feature some of Los Angeles's finest musicians performing highlights from the upcoming season including Big Band, Latin, Romance, The Movies and even Christmas, and will feature pop superstar Kenny Loggins, leading jazz pianist David Benoit and recording artist Monica Mancini.
"We (the Glendale Arts Board of Directors) are doing something truly groundbreaking," stated, Barry McComb, Chief Executive Officer of Glendale Arts. "Most Pops Orchestras are extensions of traditional Symphony Orchestras. Glendale Pops isn't, but is rather the product of a few dedicated community leaders, who believe that Glendale deserves a vibrant pops music program and helped to make it a reality. In this economy, this is a remarkable accomplishment and we are honored to be a part of it."
All proceeds from The Premiere will go to support Glendale Arts, a non-profit organization charged with managing the historic Alex Theatre, the Glendale Pops Orchestra and coordinating resources for local artists and arts organizations.
The Glendale Pops Orchestra is being financially supported by Glendale Arts, The Americana at Brand, Pacific BMW, Forest Lawn, Massage Envy Spa, Community Bank and KKJZ/KMZT, to name a few.
