LOS ANGELES (M. Etheridge Official Website) - Melissa Etheridge is battling breast cancer, but her prognosis for a full recovery is excellent reported Friday.

The diagnosis has prompted Etheridge to cancel her planned fall tour, according to a statement on her Web site:
"It was announced today that singer, songwriter Melissa Etheridge has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As a result of early detection and progressive treatment her doctor is expecting a speedy and complete recovery. Upon her doctor's advice Melissa will undergo surgery and the prognosis looks excellent. Due to these circumstances her upcoming tour dates have been cancelled.

Melissa states, 'I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early.' 'I am looking forward to a quick and full recovery,' she elaborates.
Melissa will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles with her wife and children.
All tickets for her upcoming shows are refundable at point of purchase."

Etheridge's latest album, "Lucky," was released in February. Last month it was announced she would star in an as yet unnamed sitcom for ABC.
