Multiple Drug Charges At Music Festival
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ NSW Police) NSW Police are concerned the message about illegal drugs is still not getting through to the public, following a number of suspected overdoses and drug-related court notices issued during a music festival in Sydney yesterday.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Local Area Command, as well as police from the licensing, mounted and trail bike units, ran a high-visibility operation at Centennial Park yesterday for the Good Vibrations Festival.

The operation targeted violent behaviour, alcohol-related crime, plus illegal drug use and supply.

As a result of the drug detection operation, 67 people were issued court attendance notices, 53 cannabis cautions were issued, eight charged with supply a prohibited drug, and seven small quantities of drugs were found on the ground.

A total of 281 people were searched by the dogs and all those who were caught with drugs were ejected from the venue. Police also ejected 68 people due to intoxication.

Event commander and Eastern Beaches Local Area Commander, Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate, said while police are pleased with the results of the day overall, he is concerned with the number of people who still aren't getting the message.

"We issued extensive media coverage in the lead up the event, warning the public of the dangers of drug use as well as the planned police presence.

"While the majority of party-goers enjoyed themselves within the law, there are still a number of who insist on taking illegal drugs.

"Nine people were taken to hospital suffering suspected drug overdoses, with some being listed in a serious condition," Det Supt Dengate said.
