New York, NY (Top40 Charts) AbolishCancer is teaming up with musicians around the world through the use of social media to raise support in the fight against childhood cancer as part of their #Rock2AbolishCancer awareness campaign. With the help of musicians, AbolishCancer is encouraging everyone to donate $1 to their favorite childhood cancer charity on
September 1, 2011 as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The hope is to have musicians use their social media presence on the days leading up to
September 1st to encourage their fans and followers to support the initiative.
The #Rock2AbolishCancer awareness campaign strives to raise monetary support for childhood cancer charities and organizations and to raise awareness about childhood cancer, the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children. Through the
September 1st campaign, more people will become aware of the need for advanced methods of detection and treatment of pediatric cancers.
Through events in the past, such as LiveAid and FarmAid, musicians have shown their ability to unite for a common cause and have a tremendous impact in creating movements behind their charitable performances. With AbolishCancer's campaign, the hope is to once again use music as a unifying force, not by requiring musicians to perform or make appearances, but rather by allowing them to use their social media presence to unite a global community in the fight.
"Our goal is not to get one person to donate $1 million dollars, rather we want 1 million PEOPLE to donate $1 as a sign of solidarity in the fight against childhood cancer," said Darah Bonham, founder of AbolishCancer.
