Pharrell Williams Sends Legal Warning To Trump Over Rally's Use Of 'Happy'!

New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Pharrell Williams' attorney has fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Trump's camp that demands POTUS not use his client's music: "On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged 'nationalist,' you played [Williams'] song 'Happy' to a crowd at a political event," reads the letter from Howard King.
"There was nothing 'happy' about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday, and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose... Demand is hereby made that you cease and desist from any further unauthorized use of Pharrell Williams' music."

Trump acknowledged the shooting in his speech at the rally: "This wicked act of mass murder is pure evil, hard to believe and frankly something that is unimaginable. Our nation and the world are shocked and stunned by the grief."

But it appears Williams won't allow Trump to use any of his music under any circumstances. "Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music," King wrote. "The use of 'Happy' without permission constitutes copyright infringement."

Williams is the latest artist to threaten legal action against Trump if the president continued to play their music at his pre-midterm rallies: Earlier this month, Prince's estate asked Trump to cease using "Purple Rain" at rallies, while Steven Tyler issued a cease-and-desist letter in August after Trump's rallies broadcasted Aerosmith's "Livin' on the Edge."
