LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ ATO Records) - Los Angeles-based Signal Hill Transmission is proud to announce the release of their four song EP, "Starting Gun," on September 23rd on ATO Records. The forthcoming release is the band's first with ATO. This all-digital release is also a first for the label.

In early 2008, Signal Hill Transmission won a contest put on by Clear Channel radio station 98.7FM. The win earned them a recording contract with ATO, and from that very moment the band was off and running with the creation of "Starting Gun."

"Winning a record contract from a competition, I know it sounds weird," admits guitarist Mon Agranat, "but in this industry, in this day and age, it's good to get an edge any way you can."

"Starting Gun" was recorded at Seagrass Studios in Valley Village, California with producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Pete Yorn) in May of 2008. The band had put Brad at the top of their list of producers they wanted to work with and, less than a month later, they were in the studio with him. Summing up that momentous experience, lead singer Scott Warren says, "Brad's body of work is so impressive, yet he has a laid-back approach to recording that really brought out the best in us."

The title "Starting Gun" comes from the lyrics in one of the songs on the EP but also evokes the sense of nervous excitement the band shares as it anticipates its future. Rolling Stone Contributing Editor David Wild writes, "Starting Gun is not the beginning of the race, but an altogether winning start for Signal Hill Transmission - a new melodic rock band that promises to be around for the long run." And with their first single, "On & Off," hitting the airwaves in September, this may just be Signal Hill Transmission's year.
