New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Mercury Rev's mostly instrumental full-length album 'Strange Attractor,' will be made available for free download from mercuryrev.com and yeproc.com on September 30 accompanying the release of their anticipated new album 'Snowflake Midnight.' Sharing some musical themes with 'Snowflake Midnight' but featuring eleven exclusive, all-new songs, 'Strange Attractor' will also come packaged as one half of a double vinyl release containing both albums.

"'Strange Attractor' is, in many ways, a glimpse into the genesis of 'Snowflake Midnight.' says Jeff Mercel, the band's drummer/multi-instrumentalist. "There are wide open elements on 'Snowflake' and we wanted to give the music an opportunity to expand even further."

"Both albums were created from the same recordings," Mercel continues, "but with 'Strange Attractor' the liberating experience was to create without the usual premises of lyrics or live performances in mind. While one album is no less than the other - 'Attractor' is very representative of how we were working and creating over the last two years. These are not unfinished songs - we just chose to leave them open ended."

Attentive listeners will find plenty of headphone candy on 'Strange Attractor' including a subterranean spoken word segment at the end of the album which must be heard to be believed.

Although none of the tracks from 'Strange Attractor' have yet been made public, music arbiters such as Spin, Pitchfork and Stereogum have already praised tracks from 'Snowflake Midnight' with Stereogum saying that one "Senses on Fire," "brims with energy and a glossy, trippy feel."
