Frankie's name is synonymous with the birth, rise and evolution of garage music - just as Miles Davis is to jazz or John Lee Hooker is to the blues. For close to four decades the mild-mannered DJ, producer and recording artist has pushed the envelope on a genre with passion, finesse and grace, adding his mark to many icons of popular music, advancing the remix as an art-form, and inspiring a generation of DJs and producers along the way. Back in 2004, August 25th was even proclaimed by the Mayor of Chicago as Frankie Knuckles Day, naming a street Frankie Knuckles Way in his honor! In the early '90s Frankie and his good friend David Morales joined forces to become Def Mix, their Red Zone remixes widely regarded as helping cross underground club music into the mainstream and in the process give artists like Jamiroquai, U2 and Mariah Carey a foothold in both camps. Winning Grammy Awards, platinum discs and accolades from every corner of the planet, Morales is equally at home behind the decks entertaining tens of thousands in stadiums or hundreds in more intimate surroundings like Cielo. "I am creating a place for people to forget their troubles for a while. It is important in the world we are living in today," says the true vanguard of dance.
