Little Steven Van Zandt is celebrating Halloween and Christmas this year with new collections of the best garage rock music for each holiday from bands like The Kinks, The Ramones, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, and Tegan and Sara. 'Halloween
A Go-Go' is out now on Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records, which will also release the rarities-packed 'Christmas
A Go-Go' on October 14.
'Halloween A Go-Go' - out now
Wicked Cool's first salute to the holiday, 'Halloween A Go-Go' revels in the dark demons that make October 31st so devilishly fun.
And with tracks from The Chesterfield Kings, Donovan, Minus 5 and Bruce Springsteen, it's easy to see why Steven calls Halloween "garage rock's favorite holiday." Over the course of the 15-track compilation, Steven warns, "you will find yourself dancing with the devil, laughing in the face of the apocalypse, transported to the mystic forests of your deepest darkest secrets and insatiable lusts, and shocked by the helplessness of your own confessions of the sacred and the profane. But afterward, if you live, one fact above all with remain clear - now you will learn why you fear the night!"
David Fricke of Rolling Stone knows there's nothing frightening about 'Halloween A Go-Go,' which he deems "So cool it's scary! Classic kicks and electric shocks from the top goblins in garage rock. It's a great collection," he adds, "getting Howlin' Wolf, Tegan and Sara, Carl Perkins, and the Pretty Things to fit like this, subject aside, is genius - just like the radio show! And ending with 'Season of the Witch' - brilliant."
