Austin, TX (Top40 Charts/ UTOPiAfest Official Website) VIP tickets are sold out, but a limited number of discounted weekend passes remain available until October 1 (or they sell out) for UTOPiAfest 2011, the family-friendly music and art festival scheduled October 14-16 in Utopia, Texas. Individual passes are $79 (regular price $99), but are expected to sell out quickly. Also, purchase five passes and receive one free.
Performing on a single headline stage are Grupo Fantasma, Dawes, Blitzen Trapper, and Cornmeal (Friday, 7 p.m. - 1:30 a.m.), and
Digital Antique, The Giving Tree Band, Suzanna Choffel, Peelander-Z,
Black & White Years, Avi Buffalo, Wheeler Brothers, Keller Williams, and Art vs. Science (Saturday, Noon - 1:30 a.m.).
Several acts are introducing brand new music at UTOPiAfest. In addition Blitzen Trapper, touring behind its highly-anticipated new Sub Pop album, American Goldwing, UTOPiAfest also features Dawes, whose new album, Nothing Is Wrong, closely follows the band's acclaimed gig with The Band's Robbie Robertson, and Austin's Wheeler Brothers, which is earning high marks for Portraits, the band's debut on Bismeaux Records, founded by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel.
UTOPiAfest takes place in a beautiful natural amphitheater in the west
Texas Hill Country, near many state attractions including Lost Maples, Garner
State Park, and the Frio and
Medina Rivers. The festival's single main stage allows every audience member to experience full sets by each band. Special guests and other surprise artists will also appear on the smaller Cypress Stage during main stage breaks. Other daily activities include morning yoga, a disc golf course, unique art displays, and food and craft vendors.
Weekend passes for youths (12-18), seniors (65-plus), veterans, and current U.S. service personnel (including Red Cross and Peace Corps volunteers) are $59. Only 1,500 total weekend passes are being released and are expected to sell out soon.
Prices include free parking and on-site camping, with no extra charge for RVs, buses, and other large vehicles.
UTOPiAfest is a production of
Travis Sutherland and the
Fisher Family, who in 2009 originated the event on a private 1,000-acre ranch, and Onion Creek Productions, an Austin-based company that develops unique video projects for a diverse roster of clients.
UTOPiAfest 2011 pledges to donate a portion of proceeds to Charity Water, Tree Folks, Kiva, Utopia EMS & Fire Departments, and other organizations.
