AKRON, OHIO (docswhorock.com) -— For its first two years of existence, United Way of Summit County's 'Docs Who RockTM,' a physician talent show, reached standing-room only status at progressively larger auditoriums.

With plans in place to continue that trend, the 2006 Docs Who Rock, sponsored by The University of Akron, will be held at E.J. Thomas Hall on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 7:00 pm.
Tickets for the show are available now at the E.J. Thomas Hall, Akron, OH box office or at ticketmaster.com for only $12 per person. For more information, visit www.docswhorock.com.

The event is an opportunity for local doctors to showcase their musical talents. After outgrowing the 430-seat auditorium at the new Main Library and the 800+ seat theatre at North High School, the committee of United Way volunteers working on Docs Who Rock began looking for larger venues in which to hold the event.

Dave Osterland, Vice President of Public Affairs & Development for the University of Akron was approached about using the beautiful E.J. Thomas Hall. The university made it possible to use their facility and will serve as host sponsor of Docs Who Rock.

Dr. Terry Gordon will open the show with another musical tribute. In the first year of Docs Who Rock, he performed as Rod Stewart, and in 2005, he did a dead-on impression of Austin Powers. His character (or perhaps characters) for the 2006 show is a closely guarded secret. 'I'm quite sure the audience will be entertained and my mother will be mortified,' Dr. Gordon said.

Eleven acts will be competing in the show to be named champion of Docs Who Rock. Each band features at least one Doctor (M.D. or D.O.) who lives or practices in Summit County. The acts are: Big Adventure with Dr. Andrew McIntosh; V-Tach featuring Dr. Tom Javorsky and Dr. Joe Pietrolungo; Henry Lowe Resurrection featuring Dr. Glenn Blankenhorn; Collideascope featuring Dr. Rob Hermanowski; The House Popes featuring Dr. Eric Jagar; Stringed Fantasy featuring Dr. Alma Houston; Jon Von Bovie featuring Dr. Joe Kirk and Dr. Renga Pakeeree; Accent featuring Dr. Fred Slezak; Sound Advice featuring Dr. Tim Newman; and solo acts Dr. Paul LeCat and Dr. Akida Green.

United Way of Summit County President Bob Kulinski said, 'We are so amazed at the growth of Docs Who Rock in the event's first two years. The partnership between United Way, Dr. Terry Gordon, Dr. Luis Proenza and Dave Osterland from the University of Akron and E.J. Thomas Hall will make Docs Who Rock a signature event for our community. This year's show promises to be the best yet.'

United Way of Summit County improves lives by mobilizing community assets for health and human services.
