HOLLYWOOD, CA. (Judi Kerr, Capitol Records) - Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, the first wife of the late Johnny Cash, and the mother of Rosanne Cash, died on May 24th in Ventura, Calif., after a brief illness. She died on her daughter Rosanne's 50th birthday.

Mrs. Distin was married to Johnny Cash from 1955 to 1968. They had four daughters together: Rosanne, Kathy, Cindy and Tara.
She married Richard Distin in 1968, and they lived in Ventura.
She is survived by her husband, her four daughters, three step-children, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"We are devastated by the loss of our mother," Rosanne Cash said. "She was a remarkable woman, and completely devoted to her children. Her death was wholly unexpected and our entire family is in shock and great mourning."
