East Coast Musician Dwayne W. Tyree Releases New Single "Take Me Higher"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Dwayne W. Tyree, a rapper and hip-hop songwriter from the East Coast, has released his newest single, titled, "Take Me Higher." The track is a high-energy number suitable for dance floors and the live stage, and features traditional rap lines and female vocals delivered over a modern hip-hop, synth, drum and bass background - or, as Tyree himself describes it, "It's a nice, smooth tune of pop rap with a hip hop fill." Tyree is perhaps most well known for his work as a drummer, but "Take Me Higher" ensures that no one will make the mistake of calling him solely a percussionist ever again.

Nevertheless, it bears mentioning that Tyree has performed with legendary performer Earl Chandler, and in Europe with the giant doo-wop ensemble, The Temptations. He played with The Platters, The Clovers, and with The Jive Five. He has also played in funk and go-go bands. However, his breakaway moment came when he performed with Richard Morel's house band, "Morel," beginning in 1990 (Morel has four LP records to-date, the last having been published in 2004 entitled "Lucky Strike"). Tyree, a remarkably self-driven musician, cleaved to doo-wop more than to house or go-go music because it offered him something more challenging than the straightforward time signatures a drummer must maintain through whole house or go-go songs, and the varied phrasing of "Take Me Higher" shows that he's still not satisfied with a single motif throughout any individual track.

His discipline as a drummer is very refined, and has perhaps been further honed in his long experience with straight-laced band leaders like Chandler, but "Take Me Higher" showcases his attention to detail in great sweeps. No note is even half a tick before or after the beat. His rap is measured, balanced, deliberate, and razor sharp - yet it retains the swing necessary for it to stay live and un-overproduced, overproduction being one of the most common and destructive mistakes solo musicians make in the contemporary era of digital music engineering. It has the melodic instrumentation of Stevie Wonder, and the poppy, fun-loving rap style of the late eighties that enjoyed much mainstream success until gangsta came in fashion and made fun in rap music unpopular.

Tyree's "Take Me Higher" is a genuine work of hip-hop excellence on several levels that the music world in general could use much, much more of.

"Take Me Higher" by Dwayne W. Tyree is available online everywhere.
