"The Making of Planet Rock"
Please join us this year in celebrating Tommy Boy's 25th Anniversary and its significant contributions to the history of Hip Hop. On April 3rd, 2006 at 7 pm, you are invited to attend a panel/discussion titled: "The Making of Planet Rock." Panelists include Arthur Baker, Fab Five Freddy, Monica Lynch, John Robie, Tom Silverman and more to be announced with David Toop as moderator. The event will be held at The Skirball Performing Arts Center, at NYU, and will be the inaugural event of NYU's two week multi-media Hip Hop festival in April.

The Making of Planet Rock
What the Critics Are Saying! "The first two-thirds of this 12-volume series is instantly the best Golden Era survey ever. Each programmed with the logic of those old breakbeat comps (i.e., none in particular), the discs are interchangeably great, with excellent photos and notes from a wise army of hip-hop lifers....fun as a heat-wave fire-hydrant party and a cornerstone for that new nano." - Will Hermes for SPIN

"This set chronicles hip-hop's rise from New York-based folk art to global force, a rap-for-dummies comp that does all the crate-digging for you....All micro-trends are accounted for: smooth operators (LL Cool J), hippies (De La Soul), gangstas (N.W.A.), virtuosos (Rakim), radicals (Public Enemy) and the jokers (Biz Markie). A must-have for aging b-boys and 50 Cent-quoting teens." - Michael Endelman for ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

"Celebrating the 25th anniversary of hip-hop's signature label, this essential 12-disc set presents the foundation of a genre - from Kurtis Blow to Spoonie Gee. A magical Polaroid of a time when you didn't need a gun to prove your point." - Bart Blasengame for DETAILS
