New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Varese Sarabande will release THE COMMUTER - Original Motion Picture
Soundtrack digitally on January 19, 2018 and on CD February 26, 2018. The album features original music composed by Roque Baños (DON't BREATHE, IN THE HEART OF THE SEA).
"The director Jaume Collet-Serra was great to work with," said Baños when asked about his experiences on the film. "Jaume gave me total freedom to develop the music. His only direction was to create patterns in the music that evoke a commuter's everyday routine. I did that in the main theme actually, which is a repetition of a small phrase with little variations."
Insurance salesman Michael (Liam Neeson) is on his daily commute home, which quickly becomes anything but routine. After being contacted by a mysterious stranger (Vera Farmiga), Michael is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on the train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding, and he is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy that carries life and death stakes for everyone on the train.
"I used a traditional line-up of instruments including piano, strings, brass, and percussion," said Baños. "On top of all of those amazing musicians, I also incorporated an unusual instrument - the train horn. It gives personality to the score, and it put's the train as a central character in the movie. The train has it's own theme, played by this train horn, giving the sound a character that could only be THE COMMUTER."
