Adams Morgan Day Festival: 'A Global Community Of Diverse Cultures'
WASHINGTON (Top40 Charts/ Adams Morgan Main Street Group) Adams Morgan Main Street hosts the 33rd annual Adams Morgan Day Festival on Sunday, Sept 11, 2011. The location is 18th Street N.W. between Columbia Rd and Florida; with Kid's Fair & Cultural Stage and pavilions at Marie Reed School. Organizer Adams Morgan Main Street Group is pleased that more than 25 different cultures/ countries are represented in this keenly anticipated event from Noon to 7 p.m. "Arts on Belmont" opens at 10 a.m.

"A Global Community of Cultures," this regional DC area festival is different from other Festivals because it showcases and celebrates many cultures and their contributions. Adams Morgan Day is known for its live music, cultural, and dance performances, Kid's Fair and popular "Arts on Belmont." Varied international foods abound not only from vendors, but from Adams Morgan's sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Visitors stroll with vendors on one side and view the year-round indie businesses and shopping of Adams Morgan on the other. Begun in 1978, the Adams Morgan Day Festival, celebrates the synergy of diverse cultures.

Two signature stages, Florida and Columbia, offer diverse live music groups. The Columbia features music developed from American roots; with blues, bluegrass, rock, jazz, funk and Afro beat represented, including the Big Woo, Neo Groove, and Cheick Hamala Diabate. The Florida features international and Latin music such as Irish, Latin, Caribbean, Brazilian reggae, calypso steel, and Cuban salsa.

Arts on Belmont garners special attention for its original works in all media and opportunity to meet the artists. On shady residential Belmont, offerings fit budgets small and large. Savvy shoppers browse early through works in oil, watercolor, metal, textiles, clay, and wood. It's fun and educational to discuss with artisans and collectors.

New acts at the interactive Dance Plaza, are the Jinga Dance Fitness and Hula Zombie. Furia Flamenca's colorful costumes lead into DC Hippodrome and Capoiera. Rounding out the international line-up is Zezah Samba, DC Casineros and Dance Institute of Washington.

Kids' Fair/ Cultural Stage hosts smaller scale diverse acts opening with Japanese Shishi Dog, kids hula, story time, and Kids Punk Rock. Indonesian Martial Arts & Dance lead into Jazz Techo and Spanglish Theater Group and Spoken Word. The grand finale closing is by Kid Goat. Enjoy free activities and games for all ages in the family-friendly Kid's Area with Spider Climb, monkey bounce and pirate's ship.

The newer Health Pavilion showcases health, sports, fitness, diet, and spas at 18th St and California. At the Green Pavilion, visitors will find under one large tent products, samples, services covering everything eco-friendly including recycled art, office & home products, and solar panels.

Adams Morgan Main Street, an umbrella nonprofit, organizes the Festival and preserves Adams Morgan's eclectic, vibrant multicultural character and small businesses via activities to improve appearance, accessibility, and promotion. For info, 202-232-1960, or www.AdamsMorganDayFestival.com
