New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Greenpot Bluepot--the iconoclastic solo project of celebrated NYC artist
Natalie LeBrecht--has confirmed the April 3 release of her new LP, 'Ascend at the Dead End.' LeBrecht performed and produced the record herself, working with Animal Collective's Avey Tare, who co-mixed with Matt Marinelli (Beastie Boys, Lauryn Hill). Twisting and turning with byzantine melodies over relentless Middle Eastern and African rhythms, LeBrecht's vocals evoke the indelible work of artists like Yoko Ono and PJ Harvey.
Or as Devendra Banhart put it, "Like some intergalactic Nico, her songs seem to come down from some perfect nebula, unendingly blowing my mind."
Nearly two years in the making, 'Ascend at the Dead End' follows previous acclaim for LeBrecht, including a Roulette/Jerome Foundation Commission for New Music, seals of approval from New York cultural arbiters like WFMU and WNYC, and overseas tours in Japan and Europe.
In addition to her work as Greenpot Bluepot, LeBrecht has also worked with minimalist pioneers La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, for whom she served as a production assistant on the acclaimed
Dream House sound and light installation and live performances at The Guggenheim. Despite that distinguished pedigree, the arrangements on 'Ascend at the Dead End' are anything but minimal, with swirling layers of sound building upon each other into grand towers of song.
Stay tuned for more details on 'Ascend at the Dead End' and tour dates to be announced soon.
