Joe Keithley - No Oil Pipelines In B.C. Solo Tour
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Just in time for spring, Joe Keithley (leader of Canada's legendary punk band D.O.A.) sets out on a mini tour of BC to help raise awareness about the potentially disastrous outcome if either the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion or the Northern Gateway Pipeline are approved by Stephen Harper.

Ever the activist, environmentalist, muckraker and defender of Canada, Keithley figures that it's time that the people's voice and wishes trumped the deep pockets of the oil industry. "Look at it this way, if the kids or grandkids of the executives of Enbridge or Kinder Morgan had to swim through an oil spill or drink water from a stream that had been destroyed by a bitumen spill, I know they would fly them on a private jet to a cleaner environment. Don't fool yourself, these pipelines are not about jobs and helping Canadians, it's reckless and it's not Canadian."

Keithley is well prepared and wildly qualified to give you The Straight Goods, which is the handle he's put on his new spoken word/acoustic show. He goes at the raw truth and emotion of being a lifelong activist, punk and man of the people like no other. This is the end result of a life time spent performing, writing songs and raising hell.

He has lived life like no other and unlike most of his generation, he has stayed true to his roots. Keithley grew up thinking the system sucked and that hasn't changed. He got pulled into becoming an activist by Greenpeace in high school when he was 16 years old and that was just the first step. Then he went to university to become a civil rights lawyer, but got sidetracked by the powerful pull of punk rock in 1977.

JOE KEITHLEY HISTORY:
Joe Keithley and D.O.A. first came to international prominence in 1978 when he started his own independent record label, Sudden Death Records. That same year, the label released the four song 7" EP Disco Sucks, which quickly became an underground hit. A short time later Joe came up with the term "Hardcore" and D.O.A. soon released their landmark album Hardcore 81, which pushed the term hardcore into our common vernacular.

Over the last three and half decades D.O.A. has released 14 studio albums, sold a million records and played over 3,000 shows on five different continents. The band's performances, albums and attitude have won over three generations of fans and influenced the likes of Green Day, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Offspring, Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra, to name a few. Joe has also found time to write two books, I Shithead, A Life in Punk and Talk-Action=0, as well as record two solo albums, Beat Trash and Band of Rebels.

Over the years Keithley has helped organize and lead benefit concerts and protests for good and just causes like: anti-racism, women's rights, anti-war, environmental issues, Fair Trade-Not Free Trade and now the fight against oil pipelines.
