NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Columbia Records) - The emerging futurist pop-rock duo MGMT will hit the road for a major North American tour with the experimental techno-glam band Of Montreal beginning October 2 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and finishing November 19 in St. Louis, Missouri (see full itinerary following).

MGMT will give fans on tour a healthy live sampling of the progressive psychoacoustic sounds of Oracular Spectacular, the duo's feverishly-awaited major label debut album, slated for release in January 2008 on Columbia Records.

The synchronous and simpatico pairing of MGMT and Of Montreal on tour promises to provide one of the year's most talked-about and transformative live concert experiences.

"The combinations of vibrations made by these bands should begin to break down the walls of the tunnel-reality of our common tribe," said the members of MGMT. "We can't wait for the Of Montreal tour. This tour should/should not be taken lightly."

MGMT is: Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser. The pair first met in the green pastures of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, circa 2002, spending many collegiate nights and days comparing and sharing a wide variety of musical insights. Mutually drawn to the music of other duos, Andrew and Ben found themselves incorporating the hallucinatory power-twee of the Incredible String Band, the roaring subway minimalist electronica of Suicide, the silky pop-soul of Hall & Oates, the pulsing narcotic trance of Spacemen 3, the avant-garde industrial romanticism of Royal Trux and much more into the constantly evolving sounds of MGMT.

As on-campus performance art provocateurs, Andrew and Ben staged a series of "these obnoxious, noisy live electronic shows. It was all electronically generated at that point. We would write a new song for each show and our shows would be 15 minutes long."

In contrast to the group's early live shows, which were mainly electronically generated, Oracular Spectacular, and MGMT's upcoming on-stage sound, is filled with "more traditional rock instruments: electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, synthesizers all played live." MGMT will perform as a five-piece ensemble while on tour with Of Montreal.

Some of MGMT's first fans included a group of NYU students who formed an indie label, Cantora Records, in order to issue the very first MGMT commercial release, Time To Pretend (a 6-song EP, currently available on iTunes). MGMT followed the release of the EP with a couple of one-month long tours. The MGMT/Of Montreal tour mark the first MGMT shows since the band signed with Columbia Records.

40 years after the Summer of Love (and 30 years after the Summer of Hate), MGMT is celebrating the grand re-opening of the third eye of the world with Oracular Spectacular, and a full-on North American tour, bringing the duo's enigmatic and prophetic sounds and hook-riddled pop tones to the new millennium's most discriminating music fans.
