Dragostea Din Tei

Submitted by Alex D. (Germany)

*** Original romanian: ***

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Alo, salut, sunt eu, un haiduc,
Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt eu Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

Refrain:
Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma, nu ma iei,
Nu ma, nu ma iei, nu ma, nu ma, nu ma iei.
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei,
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai.

Te sun, sa-ti spun, ce simt acum,
Alo, iubirea mea, sunt eu, fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt iarasi eu, Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

(Refrain)

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

*** English (strict translation) ***

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Hello, it's me, a haiduc*
And I pray, my love, embrace the happiness
Hello, hello, it's me - Picasso!
I gave you beep, and i'm neat
But know that I'm not asking you anything.

Refrain:
You want to go, but you don't take me, no
You don't take me, no, you don't take me noo..
Your face and the love under the linden trees
Remind me of your eyes.

I'm calling you, to say, what I'm feeling now
Hello, my love, it's me - happiness!
Hello, hello, it's me again, Picasso,
I gave you a beep, and I'm neat
But know that I'm not asking you anything.

(Refrain)

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

* haiduc = word defining a brave man, fighting for freedom and
justice and living somewhere between robbery and heroism (just like Robin Hood)

*** English ***

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Hello, 'salut', it's me - your Robin Hood
And I pray: My lovelyness, please embrace this happiness!
Hello, hello, it's me - Picasso!
You got my beep, it's me - I'm neat.
And be sure I'm altruistic.

Refrain:
You wanna leave, but you don't take away
You don't take away, don't you take awaaay...
Your face and eyes I keep in memory
Beside the love under a linden tree.

'just called to reveal the feels I bear
Hello, my loveliness, it's me - happiness!
Hello, hello, it's me (again) - Picasso!
You got my beep, I'm really neat
And be sure I'm altruistic.

(Refrain)

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

*** German (strict translation) ***

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

(Refrain)

Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haa

Hello All,

I am a resident in sunny San Diego, California, America;s finest city dont you kno! :) born and raised here. I am a student and dj here. I have to say that I recently discovered dragostea din tei and it rocks! I dont know what about it there is but the for time I heard it it was just awesome. It has somehtign about it thats just attractive you could say. Some friends of mine were in Israel this summer and brought the cd back and got myself and my whole school hooked. I played the song at a pep rally we had today and the students went nuts..it was so cool! So as my name implies I am also a dj so I love adding new songs to my dj repetoire. I love the romanian language I new nothing about it until recently after some reasearch and think its awesome. I myself am a semi-fluent hebrew speaker (of course english to :) )so I know a lot about the foreign languages and I think its so cool when other cultres can put out something so universal like music and have it just take off. I dont know if you guys remember but the Turkish group "Tarkan" released their song the "Turkish Kiss" a while back and when it first came out I went crazy for ti and still otday love it. So it just goes to show you how diverese we all really are. SO maybe you guys can help me out is there some kind of story behind the song? I heard somehting about an orginal and then Ozone did it over again? Anyway best of luck to all keep the music goin!

Peace, DJDrew781

heya, im a new zealander, living in auckland. i heard dragonstea din tei thru a friend and together we've fallen in love with the band. if they ever came to new zealand we'd be their no.1 groupies! do any of you know how to get in touch with the band or send them mail? i have a new found interest in romania too. By the way, the convosation at the top is reali funi, between mathais and other people. my experiences of americans have always been great but that doesnt mean that they're not a little too rapped up in their selves at times. then again im only 16 and onli know a little about the big wide world. O-zone rox!!!

hahah I know I'm a bit late but I just got curious about what the lyrics meant, never really had time to look them up b4. I was given a link to a flash version of the song on Lineage 2 forums and I laughed my ass off, not at the song. Some kid was dancing in the flash. Anyways the song has great rythm and beat.
And to continue what mathia said. I'm srry but I'm not going to hide how most Canadians feel. Sure I know a lot of cool Americans who are my friends. But for the most part ignorance is rampant in the States. You say YOU dont think so? Well then you just proved my point.
examples UBC (university of British Columbia) hung a car from the Golden Gate Bridge. American News reporters kept saying University of Columbia! ... U B C ya how does that work. News reporter = news and information. If they can't even do a simple investigation involving CANADA their little brother country it looks really bad. Want another example? George Bush.... enough said.

Oh and Bush didn't know where Canada was.

WW2 Americans saved the day.... sure after they sat out of half the war and just profiteered. Lets kill all the "evil communists" uh huh.... Tarifs on Canadian lumber (against Free Trade Agreement).

The funny thing is nobody in Canada really cares about all those wrongs. It only pisses us off when Americans make sly remarks towards us and say "ppl are so mean to us. but we didn't do anything wrong."

Thank you! I was wondering whether or not O-Zone sung Dragostea Din Tei, because I was getting quite confused. Whenever I looked up the song, it always came up exactly the same, no matter the artist. So are the lyrics by O-Zone, or as rumor has it are they done by a group called The Outlaws? (It WOULD make sense, wouldn't it?)
I much love that O-Zone did it, because one of those guys is quite good looking, but I do hope they sung that version.
maelstrom22/Apr/2005 14:47:15
Hello everybody! Well, I am from Romania and, I might say, I'm quite familiar with this topic. Personally I quite don't like O-Zone's music. But... Their songs kinda enter your head and keep playing in there. They were a huge succes here. And they are also pretty good showmen. The band known as "Haiducii" (The so called Outlaws) stole O-Zone's song and sang it in Italy, at first. But "Dragostea din tei" is an original O-Zone song. This is pretty obvious also because all their songs sound pretty much the same. Same melodic line, same pretty stupid lyirics. And recently, they split. And recently, I saw 2 clips from the former O-Zone members at the local music television program (which plays usually crappy songs... but that's another story): Dan with a scary looking guy, and Aresenium (the guy with the looong face from O-Zone) singing smth in english, but with the song having a very russian influence. Not surprisingly, the melodic lines are quite similar, the all known O-Zone style. So, yes, they split, but they sing the same. Salute!

First heard this song at my junior year prom. We were jumping up and down so hard the floor was jumping up and down with us. They called the fire marshall and told the juniors to go downstairs. We didn't, and it was great!

I love O-zone!!! check out my username. (i'm not romanian, but don't think i'm a poser. my cousin exaggerates on my "obsession" with O-zone so she made the username, not me). anyway, i love MOST of their songs (some, i've got to admit, suck, but that's not the point) and Dragostea Din Tei is my favorite. i finally got some kids at my school to enjoy the song too.
kolaida07/Oct/2005 02:53:18
Hey, I remember when my cousin first sent me this song awhile back. I fell in love with it right away. It's really catchy isn't it? ^^ Anyway, does anyone else think it's pretty cool that they've been playing this song towards the end of the Chicken Little trailers being shown on TV (at least in the US it is)?

And, also, on a note about the US and the ignorance of it. You have to understand that alot of it simply has to do with where a person is educated in the US. I've always known where Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, and, yes, even Romania is. But I've always either lucked out and gotten excellent teachers or gone to a good school (military family so lots of moving). Today at work, a guy asked me what "de nada" meant since people told him that alot. This wouldn't have been such a weird question if he hadn't been in his second year of Spanish. And my brother, also in his second year of Spanish, couldn't tell me what "rubia" meant. Yet, when I attended school in another state, I wouldn't have been able to pass my first test in my first year of Spanish without knowing simple stuff like that.

Anyway, I can't tell you how thrilled I am that I actually heard the first part of Dragonstea Din Tei a couple times on TV thanks to the movie trailer. I hope the radio stations in our area will get the hint and start playing this song (if all else fails I can always count on the local Spanish station to play it ^^)

My faourite video on YouTube was the Dragostea Din Te Fun Version. I love seeing the boys fool around. But YouTube has removed it. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the video. I would pay.

Cheers

I still love this tune.

Remember spending a 3 weeks in Mallorca and 3 weeks in Ibiza in 2004 (not consecutive weeks - split into 4 holidays) and enjoying this tune, also enjoyed it back in the UK too, but when you are partying to past 06:00 it's better to be partying in the Balearics than back in the UK.

Now Dan Balan, Arsenium and Radu are on their own. Dan is in the States, while Arsenium and Radu are in Romania. I would like to see them one day together again on stage.
