NEW YORK (www.ladybugmecca.com) - After 10 years, famed hip hop trio Digable Planets are set to reunite. They had momentarily gone the way of other feel good groups of the early 90's. 'Whatever happened to? (e.g. Arrested Development, Jodeci,??) 'They need to get back together!". There have been a number of trio's throughout the short history of Hip-Hop, but none were as captivating and poignant or culturally influential as Digable Planets. A group that radiated creativity, resonated intellect, spoke to people on the streets and most of all pushed the envelope.

A series of groundbreaking moments occurred when Digable Planets burst onto the scene in 1993, when hip-hop had yet to achieve mass global appeal. On the strength of Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time & Space) and its lead single 'Rebirth of Slick' (Cool Like Dat) DP's became the first act in rap to win a Grammy for best 'Duo or Group'. A monumental moment in music history, only followed by their nomination in the Best New Artist category as well as being the second rap/hip hop act behind (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince) to receive such coveted honors!

Legions of 'Heads' have long awaited the return of this intergalactic trio. The freshness of Digable Planets was in their ability to tap into the whole intergalactic 'Sun Ra' Afro futurism vibe without sounding nostalgic or like a cheap imitator. Throughout the years Butterfly (Ish), Ladybug Mecca and Doodlebug (Cee Knowledge) pursued a range of projects that were artistic in range and creative in scope. From writing film scores and soundtracks, appearing or acting in indie films as well as (individually) recording new music. By being one of the early hip hop groups to achieve massive success, Digable paved the way for other artists along the same parallel to have wide reaching success. One need only to look at the career trajectory of: Erykah Badu, The Roots, Mos Def and many others to get a since of Digable Planets legacy.

Progressive music is resurfacing like a flower protruding through cracks in the sidewalk, where true artist(ry) defies category identification to break through to mainstream acceptance and success. The dominance of their sound still echoes across all boundaries and soundscape inviting all to participate and experience. Theirs was inclusive! Hip hop listeners and progressive music connoisseurs with palates that have grown refined over the last decade and who look back fondly on the music of the early 1990's as an artistic era they would like to see rekindled here in 2004.
After years of lost contact and differences of opinion, its safe to say the insect theory of communalism is here. The planets have realigned. Can you dig it?
