On June 8th DGC/Geffen Records released Sonic Youth's 19th long player set Sonic Nurse to rave reviews. Rolling Stone said 'Sonic Nurse is mellow gold' and Filter Magazine boasts 'a gorgeous bona fide gem.' '(Sonic Nurse) has hot riffs, hip words and heavy attitude to burn' says the New York Daily News, while the New York Times went on to say 'Neil Young, the closest this rock band has to an artistic ancestor, should be proud.' The follow-up to 2002's critically acclaimed release Murray Street, Sonic Nurse was recorded in New York City at Echo Canyon Studios and produced by Sonic Youth with newest member Jim O'Rourke mixing.

Sonic Nurse was No 1 on the College Music Journal radio chart for four weeks in a row and is still in the top five after nine weeks of airplay. 'Unmade Bed' was No 1 on both the R&R and FMQB Modern Rock Specialty charts for 4 weeks in a row. Sonic Youth has performed 'Unmade Bed' on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O'Brien and has performed 'Pattern Recognition' on The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn.

June 8th also saw the release of Sonic Youth's first DVD set and the first collection of the group's groundbreaking Geffen/DGC-era videos. Corporate Ghost- The Videos: 1990-2002 (Geffen/UME) features 23 official (and unofficial) group videos spanning all seven of Sonic Youth's major label albums as well as their cover of 'Superstar' from 1994's Carpenters tribute album If I Were A Carpenter. Said Rolling Stone of Corporate Ghost, '...an excellent overview of more than a decade of guitar-throttling creativity,' while Spin Magazine raved, 'The stunning artistic merits almost go without saying, but the collection is also a fine document of Sonic Youth's ability to sniff out budding hipsterati'

The release of Sonic Nurse marks 23 years together for original band members Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley, and the second cd for Jim O'Rourke who joined the band in 2001.
