The Toledo Symphony And Conductor Karina Canellakis Bring Britten, Plau, And Sibelius To The Peristyle This Weekend
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) This Friday and Saturday only, the Peristyle will be filled with the sounds of Britten's moody Four Sea Interludes, Arild Plau's Tuba Concerto, and the harsh beauty of Finland's landscape in Sibelius's Symphony No. 2. Conductor, Karina Canellakis, brings this vibrant program to life with featured tuba soloist David Saltzman.

Karina Canellakis, currently serving her first season as Assistant Conductor of the Dallas Symphony, is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most promising and exciting young American conductors. She made her Carnegie Hall conducting debut in Zankel Hall, and frequently appears as guest conductor of New York's groundbreaking International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). This coming season, she makes her debut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, and the Orchestra of St. Lukes.

David Saltzman has been the Principal Tuba player of the Toledo Symphony and the Tuba/Euphonium instructor at Bowling Green State University since 2007. He is the director of the Bowling Green State University Tuba/Euphonium ensemble. Most recently, David has joined the Glimmerglass Opera Festival in Cooperstown, NY as the Principal Tuba player for their summer Series. Prior to these appointments, David was the Principal Tuba player for the Honolulu Symphony and the Honolulu Brass Quintet.

This weekend's concerts will take place at the Toledo Museum of Art's Peristyle at 8PM. The concert will include a lecture by Daniel John Carroll about the program beginning at 7PM.
