New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Kazunori Kumagai born in Sendai City, Japan, will make his debut at Blue Note New York at late night show starting at 0:30AM on the night of Friday, August 28th, 2015. This show features Kazunori Kumagai (Tap dance), Alex Blake on bass, Bill Ware on vibes and Samuel Torres on percussion. Admission is $10 (bar/table) in advance and $15 at door.
Kumagai started tap dancing at the age of 15 and came to NY at the age of 19. He trained in FUNK UNIVERSITY, the training workshop for the big hit Broadway musical Bring in da' Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. He studied with Ted Levy, Buster Brown, Gregory Hines, Barbara Duffy, and Derick K. Grant.
He performed in Tony Waag's Tap City, the New York City Tap Festival more than ten times and was dubbed by The Village Voice as the "Japanese Gregory Hines." In 2006, he was selected as one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch." In 2014, he received Flo-Bert Award on National Tap Dance Day in NEW YORK.
