He is a man of action, love, and inspiration…
Hospice Chaplain Dan Tayman from Senior Independence Home Health and Hospice was nominated for Senior Advocate of the Year by the team at Senior Independence for his efforts through the years advocating for the senior population. He has dedicated countless hours outside the "call of duty" to offer his time, energy, and resources to ensure that others have an improved quality of life. The Senior Independence Home Health & Hospice team was present at the 2015 Valley Legacy Awards ceremony held on October 7 to support its team member.

Kate Davis, Director of Business Development at Senior Independence states, "He is a man of action, love, and inspiration…whether it is bringing flowers, prayers, or kind words to those seniors he serves, he does it with humility and never with the expectation of recognition or anything in return."

Chaplain Dan has implemented numerous activities and programs within the community that have inspired so many to live life to the fullest each and every day. One very specific group that Dan frequently focuses on is veterans. He ensures that veterans are recognized and thanked for their service and sacrifice. He has performed over 50 veteran pinning ceremonies for veterans throughout the years. With his words and salute, patients that normally don't speak or interact have been seen returning a salute and a tear.

"Chaplain Dan has shown us all through his love and commitment to the senior population, that a legacy is to be lived and not just left," continued Davis.

About the Valley Legacy Awards
In 2005, the Valley Legacy Awards were created as an opportunity to honor members of the community who believe legacies are meant to be lived, not just left.

It recognizes those who have devoted a lifetime of working to improve the Mahoning Valley through the Outstanding Senior Award as well as recognizes Outstanding Senior Advocates, honoring those who serve the senior population.

To date, more than 250 extraordinary people and organizations throughout Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties have been honored. In 2010, the Cliff Johnson Valley Legacy Memorial Award for Timeless Service was created and is awarded posthumously by the Advisory Board to honor an exceptional commitment to the Valley.
