New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Singer, songwriter, and guitarist extraordinaire Sunny War has teamed up with LA soul singer/songwriter Chris Pierce to form a new project - "War & Pierce."
Chris Pierce & Sunny War had a friend in common - musician and producer Jared Faber. Faber thought the two should meet and that they might hit it off...maybe there was some music to be made amongst them.
The three first got together at Faber's
Silver Lake studio for a little jam, and out of that was born "Any Day Now," the first song written and recorded by the three. They all felt so inspired by the outcome of their first encounter that they tried to repeat it...to see if lightning could indeed strike twice. Each time they got together, they wrote and recorded what would ultimately become their debut EP, the self titled "War & Pierce."
Basic tracks for the album were recorded live. Some additional electric guitars and keyboards were added later. Michael
Jerome Moore (Better Than Ezra, Richard Thompson) is featured on drums. The collection was mixed by multi-Grammy award winner Dave Way.
In addition to the five War & Pierce originals, the EP also features a blistering cover of Iggy Pop's "Search & Destroy." This complete reworking of the song is entirely different and every bit as emotional as the Iggy original. The War & Pierce version is an extraordinary hybrid combining their rootsy blues take on songs with a punk classic.
Chris Pierce
Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Chris Pierce has released six independent albums worldwide. In addition to headlining tours, he has either performed on stage with or opened worldwide tours for Seal, B.B. King, Al Green, Cold War Kids, Toots and the Maytals,
Aaron Neville, Colbie Caillat, Robert Cray, Dr. John,
Jamie Cullum and many others. Chris has recently been very well received by the TED community with a TED talk on "The Healing Powers of Music."
Sunny War
Originally from Nashville, TN, Sunny War is a force of nature that is tough to pin down. Her style lies somewhere between Punk and early Blues. Yes, she may be a Robert Johnson with a shot of Bad Brains, but even this description falls short. The only way to really know Sunny is to immerse oneself in her music. As a solo artist she has opened shows for Booker T, Keb' Mo', Madeleine Peyroux, Mindy Smith, The Levon Helm Band, & Angelique Kijo among others.
Jared Faber
Jared is a multi-Grammy winning songwriter/producer and Emmy nominated Film & TV composer. He co-wrote and co-produced the
Beto Cuevas album "Transformación" which won the 2013 Latin Grammy for best Pop/Rock Album. His Cuba recorded project Urban Legend topped the CMJ world charts and got much critical acclaim and numerous TV/Film placements. Jared is also a co-writer on the current Grammy nominated Alex Cuba album, "Healer."
