LOS ANGELES (RCA Records) - Singer/songwriter
Julieta Venegas today received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Latin Rock Alternative Album for her breakthrough album Sí, which has been certified Gold by the RIAA and in Chile, and is
Double Platinum in Mexico and throughout Latin America.
Julieta received a Latin Grammy in
September in the category of Best Rock Album for Sí, and she was the big winner at the Latin American MTV Awards in October where she won Best Solo Artist, Best Artist from Mexico and
Lenny Kravitz presented her the award for Artist of the Year. She was nominated earlier this week in two categories for Univision's important Premio lo Nuestro Awards 2 of which are Album of the Year and Artist of the Year.
Julieta is one of the most respected performers/songwriters in music, and is the first of the great female voices in her generation to break out of the pack with sales and radio success in Latin America, the U.S. and Spain. She currently has two tracks, "Andar Conmigo" and "Lento", on the radio, both from her acclaimed Sí album. The third single, "Algo está cambiando", is already getting top airplay.
Recorded in Madrid and Buenos Aires, "SI" is JULIETA's first experiment with pop, electronic and norteño rhythms and beats. All 10 songs were written by JULIETA with the collaboration of Coti Sorokin, Argentinean composer and creator of Diego Torres' hit "Color Esperanza". Sí s also Julieta's first production effort, alongside co producers Sorokin and Cachorro López (Caifanes, Rosario Molotov), one of the greatest producers of Spanish rock.
This year, Julieta toured in South America, Mexico and in Spain with Alejandro Sanz. She also completed a major market tour in the U.S. where The New York Times raved "songs wandered the hemisphere from boss nova to funk, reggae to bolero." Notimex wrote "Julieta Venegas demostró, una vez mas, la originalidad de su rock dulce..."
